If forced to pick the TOP TEN stupidest moments in Scientology, this one makes the list!
It's a messed up messianic moment that is not only stunningly stupid, it's epically stupid!
QUICK VERSION: A few short months after Hubbard published "DIANETICS" in 1950, he had a brilliant marketing idea to bring his miraculous Clearing technology to the world---by staging a mega-event in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium that seats 6,300 people. It was there that a jubilant Hubbard proudly presented "THE WORLD'S FIRST CLEAR". Naturally, the crowd was electrified to witness the Clear's supernatural powers, including "perfect memory". Within minutes it became an unmitigated disaster when Hubbard's "Clear" humiliatingly could not recall various things about her past or even what color tie Hubbard (behind her) was wearing. The thoroughly annoyed crowd scoffed, jeered, laughed and began to file out. In that horrific moment, what could Hubbard possibly think of to save his "modern science" and his own just-destroyed reputation?
Now comes the unbelievable moment of truth. WHAT WOULD RON DO?
There is a terrific re-telling of this entire cringefest over at Tony Ortega's UNDERGROUND BUNKER-- here's an excerpt, focused on that egregious gaslighting gaffe:

There is a terrific re-telling of this entire cringefest over at Tony Ortega's UNDERGROUND BUNKER-- here's an excerpt, focused on that egregious gaslighting gaffe:
"Hubbard, sweat glistening in beads on his forehead, stepped forward and brought the demonstration swiftly to an end. Quick-witted as always, he proffered an explanation for Miss Bianca’s impressive lapses of memory. The problem, Dianetically speaking, was that when he called her forward, asking her to come out ‘now’, the ‘now’ had frozen her in ‘present time’ and blocked her total recall. It was not particularly convincing, but it was the best he could do in the circumstances."
It must be terribly frustrating to have miraculous superhuman powers that only work in the case that nobody is present and/or someone in your vicinity speaks aloud one any kind of debilitating wholetrack kryptonite words. .
