We’ve been writing about Joy Villa for more than ten years, when she began appearing in Scientology magazines as one of its up-and-coming celebrities.

We watched as Joy was suddenly thrust into prominence for wearing a Trump dress at the 2017 Grammy Awards, became a popular conservative figure and considered running for Congress with Trump’s approval, and then became less visible both as a political commentator and a Scientology celebrity.

On May 14, Joy went public with her defection from Scientology, saying during a live video that she had been out of the church for a couple of years, and that she was hoping, like Leah Remini before her, to bring attention to Scientology’s abuses.

We were very interested in what she had to say, and immediately sent her a list of questions. And now, with help from Alex Barnes-Ross, we’re going to be talking to Joy during a live video today starting at 11 am Eastern.

This should be interesting and fun.

Joy Villa answers questions about her Scientology defection

She also said that Grant Cardone no longer publicly talks about being a Scientologist. He identifies as a Christian. :D
I suppose that plays better than identifying as a felon. :-)

Ah, I've found my post where I wrote about her 5 years ago:

Most scientology celebs may be cash donors, but propaganda-wise they are dead weight. Joy is not. She is a real asset for Dave and the church and if it wasn't for her fondness for tinfoil conspiracy and the obvious scn connection, she would now have a career in the GOP.

Even without that career, she is very dangerous and her being in the church is one of the few good cards left in Dave's hand now.

This was my opinion about her at the time. Still is.
Tom Cruise might be big, but he is the past. Joy was the only scientology celebrity with a future. Joy was the last really useful and dangerous card he had in his hand. She was his last (pardon the pun) trump card. And Dave squandered it, now he has nothing good left in CC, just dead weight.

Laura Prepon simply run away from scientology and the spotlight, never wanting to tackle the issue in public in any depth. Because she is dumb as a doorknob and cowardly. Joy is neither and she is still dangerous, except this time she is dangerous to Miscavige.

Scientology is falling apart and losing their last capable members. There is a Hubbardian term that perfectly describes that process - "Dwindling spiral"

Am I that oblivious of current popular culture? Because the only mention of Joy Villa I've ever seen was in this forum. Scientologists may have bought into celebrating her, because they pretty much have to. But if we're talking a positive draw to recruit people into Scientology, that doesn't work when you first have to explain who she is.

In the video discussion with Tony Ortega & Apostate Alex, she said that the political things she did were not done in coordination with the CoS, and that the CoS didn't like that she was doing those things. It sounded as though that's why she got out of doing the political stuff.

She was kinda a loose cannon IMO.... What was her celebrity status? I don't think she was an Actress....

I did't know anything about her.....and she kinda popped up on the Political Radar on the Republican side.....numerous times... And wasn't she at the NYC MET Gala....with that dress? And then when AOC copied her dress....she kinda vanished.... Maybe it was AOC at the MET Gala..... But Joy did that dress thing at some big political event...

She was of the new breed of Social Media Influencer types.... Of which Scientology doesn't really use... She was a loud mouthed personality... Which is not necessarily a bad thing.... But I think Scientology just doesn't go that way....due to Hubbard Doctrines....

I think DM probably thought she was some kind of wingnut......and didn't want her as any sort of Scien Spokes Person...?

But on the other hand.....wasn't she on the cover of Celeb Mag?? Maybe.....

She was Davey's last real connection to the wider conservative sphere. Trish Duggan might have more money, but she is the past. That train is about to reach the terminal station if you know what I mean.

Yvonne was a genius in the way she set up and designed CC. But her whole strategy hinged on CC expanding and gaining new celebrities and influencers for each new generation. One CC stops expanding it begins to fall apart. It can only move one direction. Actually, this rather nicely paralells Ron's own philosophical ideas: That things can't stand still. Once they no longer take steps forward, they inevitably have to take steps back. This is very true for CC.

But on the other hand.....wasn't she on the cover of Celeb Mag?? Maybe.....
She was on the ads for the superpower rundown IIRC.

She wasn't a known celebrity prior to her involvement with Scientology but she had been an actress at age 14 and did some theatre.

And yeah, she made the news at the Grammys multiple years for the dresses she was wearing.

I think the biggest issue Scientology had with her is that she never was willing to let go of her Christianity. She still read the Bible and prayed, and she wasn't praying to Hubbard or Miscavige. :coolwink::D

Then she might have been part of CC's crowd....and those Productions they put on to show case talent.... But then she didn't exactly fit in?

I didn't realize how many different dress she wore......
Here's some of em .....

I've watched enough of her in the past couple of weeks to see what happened with her in Scientology. Co$ had a problem with her for a couple of reasons:

1) Despite Co$ claims that one can be a Christian Scientologist, Christianity and Scientology are not compatible. For new people on the lower levels, they'll tell you they are compatible, and there may be some tolerance, especially if you're donating millions like Joy Villa was, but if you're still reading the bible when on the OT Preps and praying to a non-Scientology god, good luck on making it onto the OT Levels.

At one point, when Joy moved to a new location (to Nashville), she tweeted out to ask people where there was a Christian church. She was brought into Ethics in response and interrogated about this.

2) She was uncontrollable, and she speaks about this somewhat in the last third of the video she did with Natalie. Being a Christian was part of that, but also she was doing things (like the political activities) without any OSA approval that they didn't want her doing.

But on the other hand.....wasn't she on the cover of Celeb Mag?? Maybe.....

Photos of her were used in a lot of the cult promotional materials, including the Super Power Magazine. If anyone has copies, please post them! :D

There's no room for competition when you're offering Life Everlasting and Immortality.

In seeking to conquer death and gain adept-ship, we often careen right into those who want a one-lifetime club.

The biblical verse that contains the phrase "there is nothing new under the sun" is Ecclesiastes 1:9. The full verse reads: "That which has been is what will be, and that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun".

This verse is part of a broader reflection on the cyclical nature of life and the repetitive nature of human experience, often interpreted as a commentary on the futility of striving for meaning and satisfaction in earthly pursuits.

Joy reminded listeners that Ron had been dabbling in the occult. Among the old guard from the 50s, there was always that faintest scent of it in the studies. When we leave the door open a crack, evil sifts in through the seal. Though you've not sworn any Oath nor made any Pact, a price can be extracted from you as if you'd broken it. The first warning signs of this is what often drives troubled Scientologists back to Christianity. While there is nothing wrong, wanting certainty that you are immortal; the game____the Eternity one, is timeless in attracting tricksters and misdirectors, over and over. Recurring attempts to delve into conquering death with a guarantee of eternity, may attract the anti adepts of old. And the problems incumbent within those roles.
