Back in 2015, we were on tour for our book about Paulette Cooper, The Unbreakable Miss Lovely, when one of our readers asked a question: Why were we visiting so many places to meet people?
We quipped that we were testing out which city to hold an Underground Bunker convention in.
We were only joking, but readers ran with the idea and held a vote. They came up with Cleveland, Ohio, and that’s the last time we let them choose! Still, we had a great time at HowdyCon 2016 in Cleveland, and then held additional meetings in Denver (2017), Chicago (2018), and Los Angeles (2019). (We named HowdyCon after one of our favorite commenters, Steve ‘Captain Howdy’ Cox, who had died in 2015.)
We had plans for a 2020 convention in St. Louis when the pandemic hit and we had to cancel. Since then, we’ve been asked when we might start up HowdyCon again. Thanks to Patty Moher, Alex Barnes-Ross, and Phil Jones, that is finally happening in Patty’s town of New London, Connecticut starting this Friday!
Not only is Alex coming over from England, but we’re also going to be joined by people from around the country, including Chris Shelton and Claire Headley, who both live in the Denver area.
And now, we are so happy to announce that Claire is bringing her husband, Marc Headley!
