The Underground Bunker is resurrecting HowdyCon, the set of conventions it held from 2016 to 2019, and today it begins in New London, Connecticut.
Why New London? Because before HowdyCon started in 2016 in Cleveland, former Scientology spy Patty Moher had held a series of “SP parties” at her place in New London that were rather legendary, and she decided it was time to hold a new one.
Patty, Phil Jones, and Alex Barnes-Ross convinced your Proprietor to bring back the HowdyCon brand for the new party, and the three of them have worked very hard to make this gathering happen. We’ll be joined by Marc and Claire Headley, Chris Shelton, and other really interesting and important former Scientologists and journalists to talk about the state of Scientology watching in 2026 (and with proceeds going to the Michael J. Rinder Aftermath Foundation).
Word went out last night to attendees the location of the speakeasy and its secret entrance where we’re gathering this afternoon. We can’t wait to tell you about the hijinks that ensue. (The full agenda can be seen here.)
In the meantime, here are a few images from our previous gatherings, which were held in Cleveland (2016), Denver (2017), Chicago (2018), and Los Angeles (2019) before the pandemic canceled our plans for 2020.
