[Our first look inside from last night’s event]
A group of protesters led by former London staffer Alex Barnes-Ross was in place yesterday for the start of this year’s IAS gala at Scientology’s UK headquarters, Saint Hill Manor in East Grinstead, England.
Like many of you, we watched the live video feed as the demonstrators displayed their signs to a long line of cars that were slowed down to go into the Manor grounds for the first of the three nights of this year’s gala.
Afterwards, when Alex had retired to a nearby pub, we enjoyed talking to him in a live video with Chris Shelton. Here’s the video if you didn’t get a chance to tune in yesterday afternoon…
Maybe the most interesting observation from Alex was that the number of cars and the likely attendance at the event was significantly down.
We have no doubt that Scientology will put out a slide show that makes it look like the tent is as full as ever, but we think Alex’s observations can’t be ignored. He’s been there three years in a row now, after all, and has a sense of how many people are driving in.
