We watched on YouTube this morning as Alex Barnes-Ross had the opportunity to speak to the Mid Sussex District Council about his application to have Scientology’s “premises license” for its UK headquarters reviewed.
For three years, Alex has led protests at the autumn three-day IAS gala which is held at Saint Hill Manor, and it’s uncovered numerous issues of safety as protesters and attendees negotiate Scientology’s dodgy setup on a dark country lane with a 60 mph speed limit.
Alex was given time to detail those concerns, and Scientology had the chance to respond, with a barrister and a solicitor and the church’s Janet Laveau.
Alex proposed that with the safety concerns, a limit of 1,000 persons be put on events at the Scientology campus, which would shut down the annual IAS gala. Scientology countered that they wanted Alex’s application to be declared “vexatious.”
The upshot? The district council decided to turn down Alex’s application, but also denied Scientology’s request and did not declare the application vexatious.
