Saturday night in Clearwater, Scientology leader David Miscavige held a ground-breaking ceremony for the church’s future auditorium, L. Ron Hubbard Hall, and put the exclamation point on the city’s utter capitulation to him.
The Hall is a long-planned component of Miscavige’s vision for the church’s stranglehold on Clearwater’s downtown, but in recent years he became fixated on convincing the city to vacate the right-of-way of South Garden Avenue so Scientology could have control of it and keep the public away from the auditorium.
In June, the city council voted 3-2 to give Miscavige what he wanted, and in only a few weeks he found a way to spike the football — with a massive mockup of the future hall erected as a kind of stage, outside the existing Flag Building, where the celebration was held Saturday night.
We expect that Scientology will put out a slide show at its website in the coming days, but for now some images have leaked to social media and were forwarded to us by readers.
