It’s a story Marc Headley has told multiple times (and always in a very entertaining way). After his escape from Scientology in 2005, an organization he grew up in and had slaved away for in the Sea Org at secretive Int Base, Marc celebrated his new freedom on his first birthday after breaking away.

He got drunk. And he wasn’t used to drinking after being in Scientology for essentially all of his life. He ended up passed out on a sidewalk in Hollywood, and one of his friends took a photo of him.

Headley himself has posted the photo online, for one reason because he has a terrific sense of humor, but also because for him it represents the freedom he experienced after being a slave for Scientology for so many years. The freedom to start a family with his wife Claire (kids are verboten in the Sea Org), freedom to become a successful business owner, and yes, the freedom to get drunk on his first birthday out of Scientology’s clutches.

Over the years, we’ve written about the Fair Game campaigns that Scientology has aimed at Marc and Claire. Like the time they tried to get them to spy on people for the church in order to erase a $40,000 court debt after a failed lawsuit. Instead, the Headleys raised the money in a GoFundMe and told Scientology to go fish.

How cool would it be if we all got t-shirts with a red circle and diagonal line imposed over the Scientology logo with the words "Virulent Religious Bigot"! :-)
