Jeff Walker was a former high ranking Scientology Technical Executive - Senior Case Supervisor International - who decided in 1991 to leave the Sea Organization and Scientology by escaping from the secret desert location at Gilman Hot Springs, California. In order to get his personal belongings back, he showed up at the secret base with Law Enforcement Officers to ensure his safety.
You can only IMAGINE how this electrified the Sea Org members at the base to have police in uniform walk right in

This was the first time ever someone had involved Law Enforcement to help them escape from Scientology. Karen de la Carriere and Gary Jackson Morehead join hosts Mark Fisher and Janis Gillham Grady to tell Jeff's story and what actions Scientology security took going forward at the time to prevent and recover people who decided to try and escape to freedom.

Did Jeff have Alzheimers as he aged?

I've heard of memory loss in those who'd done a lot of NOTS.

Mark said Jeff was in Louisiana at one time, and I'm guessing that was with Kay? Were there any children in his life?

The wealth of photos in the podcast were enjoyable. He was cute in the first one next to Bob Young, below, where he must be around 23 yrs old. He looks Jewish.

When I left the base in March of 82 I got a surprise letter about every two weeks signed Snr C/S FSO. They were only about two paragraphs each. I was touched by the interest. I don't remember who signed them. I saw Jeff in the HGC but don't know if that was his post then.

It's hard to believe he was so difficult to get along with. I'm sorry about the trauma you went through with him in Qual, Karen. It seems Jeff made up with those he'd get angry with. David Mayo was from the North Island and Jeff Walker was from the South Island. Denedin? I wonder if the two were friendly, or if the KSW become a constant poison.

Did Jeff have Alzheimers as he aged?

Yes. he did. Jeff had a devoted girlfriend Jill who kept me in the loop. She was at his side right to the end of life.
He also continued to have violent nightmares concerning the Church Hierarchy location : INT Base. (He would scream out Int base content which Jill would have me translate)

Possibly some ~~ I did a lot of NOTS and my memory is sharp as whip. (other than Names...I remember all else.)

Yes, with Louisiana dentist Kay Gonsulin, lovely person RIP.

Jeff and I totally reconciled and had wonderful times on the phone as I did with David Mayo.
It was a journey to remember !

I've been reading about the relationship stress can have triggering Alzheimer's. A decade ago, I had read David Mayo's comment that nonstop duress from Scn management had taken it's toll. The long-term threats and trauma, caused even his brain to suffer later in life. I guess the research sciences in Palo Alto area would have also studied this factor.

Off-topic for this thread but Alzheimer's can now be prevented and to a large extent reversed in most people. Many things including stress can be contributing factors. Dr. Dale Bredesen figured out what causes it and how to reverse it while researching at UCLA. This book details the program he used to do it.

Stress can be a big contributing factor towards cognitive decline (and not just Alzheimer's) and there is a whole chapter in that book about it.
