Eleven years ago, we were fortunate to premiere a number of fascinating videos at the Underground Bunker. They were outtakes from Channel 4 UK’s excellent 1997 documentary, Secret Lives — L. Ron Hubbard that were being released for the first time. And of those, one of the most interesting was the interview with the man who had been L. Ron Hubbard’s personal “financial controller,” Mike Goldstein.
It has always struck us what a unique position Goldstein was in as the man who handled Hubbard’s cash. He also had interesting things to say about life on the
Apollo, and about Hubbard’s son, Quentin. (See the video below.) In the years since, Goldstein kept talking about his experiences in Scientology with Janis Gillham Grady and Mark Fisher at their YouTube channel. We were fortunate to interview Mike 14 times over the years for our YouTube channel, Scientology: Peeling the Onion, giving him the opportunity to share many stories about his life and career.
Janis knew Mike during their years aboard Scientology’s flagship, the Apollo, when they were both members of the Sea Organization. I had only met Mike briefly in 1978, shortly before he left the Sea Org.
