Questions for Ex-Scientologists P2

Thank you guys so much for your patience. I've been trying to work on this in between work and finals prep, so I had to try and spend my holiday on it.

As I said in my original thread: there is no pressure to answer something you don't want to, no need to share information that would identify you, etc. I'm interested in hearing your stories, but I don't want people to deal with more stress.

Note: the wording of these is to make it accessible for anyone answering - "member" rather than "victim" as I understand some people may not want to identify themselves that way.

1. What brought you to Scientology?
2. Did you have to cut anybody out of your life for it?
3. What convinced you to leave?
4. What was the process of leaving like?
5. Do you still have contact with any active members?
6. Did you find difficulty being accepted by non-members after leaving?
7. Do you find the "anti" perception of Scientology something that makes it easier or more difficult to leave?
8. When you had joined, were you aware of the negativity surrounding the church? Or were you aware while a member?
9. Were you, or someone you knew, ever physically abused while a member?

very late, but stumbled upon this just now and why not answer...

1. A body router on Boylston Street, Boston.
2. Everybody.
3. I was trying to leave staff for ages and was held up. finally someone said (kindly), "nobody knows why you are still here", so I left.
4. I didn't come in one day. I shit myself waiting for people to show up and drag me back. a few weeks later someone called me to invite me to an event.
5. One relative. I went to that person's wedding a few years ago. It was mostly Scios. That was freaking weird. Only a few that I actually knew though.
6. No, but I basically never told anyone other than my wife about my involvement.
7. No. I left staff and intended to come back eventually as a public. But never did. Actually, the negativity about Scn didn't do it. It was more reading about other cults and seeing that they had the same beliefs and commitment that I did for Scn. I was like, oh shit, same thing.
8. Not when I joined. But soon after.
9. I was pushed and shoved occasionally. I saw/heard of some slapping and witnessed some fistfights. Saw some people physically restrained who were trying to leave. I was screamed at many times. Like red faced, spittle flying, right in my face, "you are a fucking cockroach" kind of stuff.
