Stories for encouragement after leaving Scientology

Scientologirl

Ex independent Scientologist
Ngl, kind of struggling right now. For 6 years being an independent Scientologist was my identity, the thing that I thought was helping with my mental health and I’m still conflicted because of one thing.

When I was in it, there were times where it looked like I was doing better, I definitely was making more money but my mental health was still not great. Today I had a Scientologist tell me he worries about how I could end up like Lisa McPherson having a psychotic break, something to do with her being clear or not. I also had my past auditor tell me I needed to ’run like hell" up the bridge after Clear or I’d essentially be toast.

I have all these stupid conflicting beliefs so I decided to make this post because a part of me knows it’s all BS, but I want to hear from actual people how life has become better since leaving, living proof that just because I’m not a Scientologist doesn’t mean my life will continue to spiral.

Like are you happy? Do you find joy in daily life? Are you successful? Are you thriving? I need hope, and I’m sure others do too. Also sorry if this has already been answered.

Hubbard did not invent spirituality.

You can practice helpful methods built over centuries.

Mindfulness.
Intent.
Will power.

Add gratitude and pleasure.

Eat properly. Sleep. Go to the gym.

Play for fun.

In or out of Scientology if problems persist or life is the same isn't the question to ask...the salient question is if adding Scientology to the mix is an improvement or a weight.

That's an easy decision, merely based on the numbers of people that leave Scientology and its own "statistics" on growth.

If it were an improvement then the current stats in both areas would be reversed.

It's the same concept as this quote from Thomas Sowell - just apply the sentiment to Scientology being able to "fix" or "repair" life's issues:

Thomas Sowell - Amazing People Think Government Pay for Healthcare.webp

Is Scientology an answer or a government bureaucracy? A solution? Or a problem?

Been mostly out since Miscavage released the “Golden Age of Tech” in 1996, and fully out for about 20 years.

The result has been I’m happily married to the same woman for over 40 years, I have children and grandchildren who are doing well, and a very healthy set of retirement funds which have not been seized by Scn, which we are using to go on vacations and support our kids and grandchildren.

First of all is a wonderful feeling of freedom from the artificial self-serving arbitrary principles, expectations, constructs and projections that are the Scientologist snowglobe. I can give myself full permission to be open to hear, consider and be accepting of what others have to say, and my own instincts and feelings without the dismissiveness, judgement or criticism that would arise from Scientology-spawned criteria. There no longer are guardrails forcing me down a one-way street. No more ungenuine attitudes branding life as "out-ethics" and "out-tech", but instead an openness to life experience. I can recognize something as I see it, have my own thought without need to check for alignment with Scientology's self-serving principles.
How ironic it is, that for all Scientology's hyping "freedom", it is anything but. Scientology is entrapment, and freedom is on the other side of that wall.
Hubbard knew very well the very persuasive technique of decrying what you are actually presenting, so as to create the illusion that you are offering the opposite of what it is. Like promoting "self-determinism" over "other-determinism", and promoting "pan-determinism" as higher still, when his "pan-determinism" is actually absolute submission to Hubbard's dictums, a manipulated false "self-determinism" realigning the "self" as an extension of Hubbard's will.

Take a look around. There are 20,000-ish scientologists. A few billion non-scn that are doing just fine. Scientology is not the determining factor in how well you will do in life. Seek professional help if you need it. Stay positive about your life no matter what and you will be OK.

Take a look around. There are 20,000-ish scientologists.
And hundreds of thousands of ex-Scientologists. That should tell you something. If "the tech" was anything near what it was presented as being, this could not be.

I also had my past auditor tell me I needed to ’run like hell" up the bridge after Clear or I’d essentially be toast.
This is not true. Just a made up fantasy, a sales pitch that that hits at the core of a being.
A pretend myth.

I am a 10/10 pretty happy every day. Find tremendous joy and beauty in life all the time. Every
day is an adventure for me. I love my life. This is attainable with hard work earlier on in one's life.

That said, I worked hard and struggled in a career for a couple decades. Saved some money
and all turned out well for me. Had some luck along the way. No one has it easy. Life is that way.

“I’m not tough; life is tough. I’m merely trying to acquaint you with those facts.
Thomas Sowell

My main success in life was working on skills to have a career that led somewhere and provided
me with money and an ability to invest for my future, which I did. I took anything good, anything
I learned along the way in my scientology career and used it freely in my life. Like study tech,
which enabled me to become proficient with technologies and advanced skills in the corporate
world.

As opposed to being in a cult that drained me financially all the time and wouldn't allow me to work
on my professional life/skills as much or to religiously invest in my financial future.

Have to say the further away I got from scientology and scientologists, the better and better
life got for me.

Like Enthetan, been mostly out since Miscavage released the “Golden Age of Tech” in 1996,
and fully out for about 20 years. I joined ESMB in early 2007, I think, just as a fun hobby and
a place to write short articles and post my shoops.

Hang in there @Scientologirl.

I will try to give you an analogy.

Let's say that SCIENTOLOGY is like going to the best party you ever went to. Dancing, drinking, singing, laughing, being with all your favorite people that you love and who love you....And the party is so good, by 3 or 4am it's still going and people are now in the backyard jumping in the pool and having the funnest-est time ever!

Then there is the next day.

Hangover! Serious serious hangover. A holy helluva hangover.

Now, no amount of THINKING or SELF INSPECTION or advice from bartenders and alcoholics is going to cure that hangover.

The hangover takes time...and then it just goes away. Maybe a day or a few days or even more.

That is scientology.

So, people leaving the scientology euphoria party almost always have a hangover.

Thinking won't cure a hangover. Talk therapy won't cure a hangover.

Just pick 1-3 things you would love to accomplish or do in your life and try to stay focused on those.

Working on your favorite or most valued goals (even if you never fully realize them) is a kind of miraculous "therapy".

So that's it. No magic answer. You did good, you left a cult. Now you are in re-boot mode.

So get on with something you want to do or accomplish.

Just ignore the hangover. It will go away as you fill your life with other activities and projects.

It could take time. Maybe even a long time. So what.

If the hangover from scientology sometimes spooks or haunts you like a ghost, well that is the price of partying in a cult.

Much worse things happen to people than getting suckered into a cult and then leaving.

You're smart, you're creative...you have good things in the future if you work towards those...

So that's my "expert" advice. Just get busy. If need be, BURY yourself in things to do.

Just ignore the hangover and ghosts from the past.

Wishing you a good journey!

FREE BONUS COMMENT ABOUT LEAVING SCIENTOLOGY. . .

In 76 years, no person in Scientology reached the end of the Bridge.

In fact there IS no end of the Bridge.

Scientology is a marketing hoax that pushes people's attention on their RUIN. Then they pretend to cure the ruin. No matter what happens in sessions, there is still a RUIN at the end of every rundown or level. Scientology is a ruin factory.

Scientology is designed to NEVER EVER EVER allow a person to leave.

Even people who leave are somehow still haunted by Scientology. The trap is that good.

Even when Scientology ruins someone's life the person often starts to believe they need scientology even more (to cure the ruin that Scientology caused).

There is no escape from scientology except ignoring it and getting far enough away from it's toxic gravity that one's attention can be wrestled away from the cult and put onto something new and joyful.

Scientology teaches that there is no joy or true success outside of Scientology. After careful scientific and scholarly analysis I concluded that is a fucking lie. LOL

LOL !!

Yes, i got that post done just moments before 2pm.

However, because I had not marked my graph before 2pm I was assigned a condition of ENEMY for "...intentionally attempting to sabotage Ron's planetary clearing program by failing to apply standard graph-marking technology--thereby denying total freedom for all beings in this sector".

I now have to submit an amends project to "make up the damage" or I fear they will transfer me to another sector.
