Cults as a social vehicle

Lawyers, PIs, payoffs of famous SPs, invigilation of members...

I don't see that as the main reason, that is a means to an end in my book.

It's be much easier then to just cut the lines to the "church" and drift away from it with all the monies in a bag.

I'm sure it was for Hubbard. Sure, he wanted money - but he wanted admiration and control over others more than money. He wanted people to dream his dreams.

Davey? I think for Dave this is just all about getting by, kicking the can down the road. I think Dave's motto is après nous, le déluge

You said a mouthful. And how!!

This brings up an interesting point. Those that are in and have been in for some time know the sea change of importance in regards to auditors. The next time that I talk to someone that is still in, I am delicately bringing up this point to see how it will be addressed.
Happy to offer anything that might be helpful.

Scientology, in my opinion, was a collectivist ideology in that it regarded its people as being the property of the Group, and expected them to hand over their lives, efforts, and property to advance the purposes of the Group, as laid out by the Group's self-selected leadership. The collectivist regards the Group as having the right to use force to compel individuals to contribute to Group goals.
Oh yes, very much so. At the same time, there's some far-right vibes there too.

Hubbard's disdain of the ill and the useless, his "exchange" his "making the able more able"... These parts of Hubbard's ideology rub shoulders with the far right's hatred of the disabled and mentally challenged people. But these same ideas of Hubbard also rub shoulders with Stalin's "who works not, eats not" slogan.

Scientology is first and foremost a totalitarian mindset more than it is left or right.

It comes down to "Those who are not in a position to contribute to the Group, are valueless and must be eliminated, to make room for those who CAN contribute". In Scientology, if you were not in a position to buy major service, and not eligible to join staff, they weren't interested in you.

Oh there was always a way to wrinkle some milk out of them too.

Staff on missions, remember something that anyone, even those that had taken psych drugs could work on the missions.

SP declare them and get them to sell TWTH and Dianetics to get through the A-E steps(reject them a couple of times too to get them to sell more)

There would be legal issues if he tried that. Milking Scn of its money is something that has to be done carefully and gradually to avoid legal issues.

Which gets back to my original point that, you needed to be able to contribute to the Group, in order to be tolerated.

I would be curious as to the current "party line" regarding auditing.

Are auditors still being trained? Are auditors still being trained at the "still-in" person's local org?

Has there been any word as to when the SHSBC and the Class VIII course will be delivered again? Does he consider the data of those courses to be valuable for an auditor to know in order to be the best auditor he can be?

It would be interesting to get responses to those questions.

For all currently in scamatologists, the following is true, painfully actually, and as a sort of related datum on the subject of "donate to the next level" is "You are only in as good as your most recent donation," also if you just donated yesterday, "When is your next donation?"

Donations only gets that monkey off of your back briefly.

You guys think I am lying. I am not. At least that was where it was several years ago.

I believe that people are recruited to be regged. The regging of the ideal org that I was a part of extended to staff. And boy did it.

This is all part of the new look, if you are in the "cult" this is what the group expects. The group that is in charge, which is the S.O. that are running the orgs, and the willingly led amateur staff members. Public pay the price for being public still, by being the reg shills.

I know the BC went away, and where is the CL VIII course? All this on the tail end of GAOT 1996.

Where did the push on training originally come from, and why? All kinds of why's welcome, ostensibly and otherwise, including the real reason why.

And then, what happened to training, and why?

Interesting thread.

I haven't watched the whole youtube video or read all the posts here.

I don't know that I can agree that Scientology/cults are primarily a social vehicle. For sure the social aspect is part of the glue that keeps people stuck. There is a lot going on with Scientology but at its core it's a scam that promises hidden knowledge/super powers. In the end many people find that it doesn't deliver what it promises but that's after dedicating a lot of time/money to the effort. By that time they are usually pretty ingrained in the various Scientology social circles so that might make them reluctant to leave or due to being in an echo chamber fail to actually look at what's going on with Scientology, and maybe they even convince themselves that they got everything they wanted. But the reason they stuck around with Scientology is because they want those super powers, I don't think the social aspect is necessarily that strong, probably varies person to person.

Also I think the social aspect is way more apparent on Staff or in the SO. Those are definitely an us vs them, esprit de corps, etc. I would say that's primarily why people stay on Staff or in the SO. So I can agree with the social aspect in regards to staff/SO. But the average joe public sticks around because he wants to be Clear/OT. And then maybe once he's reached those he like the status those give him so he sticks around.

This fashion of big asses and especially of wanting to show them to the whole world makes me despair!

I bumped into this idea at a C.Shelton vid. If you click it below, it should take you to the specific timestamp:

For those who don't want to watch the short segment, let me give the key quote Chris: "Cults are primarily a social vehicle. It is not about the belief set, it is about the social dynamics of the group that make it so culty. And of course the abuse that gets piled on and the isolation and control. But that's not as easily executed and carried out if you are not buying into the group as a social thing."

So my question to you guys - was it really like this for you? Did it make it easier or harder for you to leave scn?

In my own case, well, I'm a pretty asocial person. I can happily go on for weeks without talking to anyone unless I get bored. That was also true inside and I even got some praise for it "Oh you are so Sea Org proper, down-to-business, none of this chit-chat jibber-jabber nonsense" type of comments. In some ways that's what the SO says it wants people to be.

But they of course say one thing and do the other. They don't want people to be all businesslike. They actively want people to engage in groupthink and "us vs them" and the "we are all in this together", "you are part of the elite, the best of the best chosen few" team-building crap. The same thing spec ops and militarizes around the world do.

So in some sense, my stand-offish-ness made it easier to leave the cult not just because I did not have much respect for the management, but also because I had very few close ties that I was afraid to sever.
And yet after all else was done the very last thing that was on my mind when I was about to defect was: "Damn, my team is gonna take a hit. I don't like the idea of making my guys suffer because I left".

That "we are all in this together" espirit de corps? Worked on me and even when I was leaving.
Yes, I quite agree with this idea. There is a social pressure that, in addition to our initial membership, allows the group to survive. All my friends were Scientologists, I worked for a Scientology business and I was married to a staff .
Only after changing jobs and getting divorced did I have the courage to leave my friends behind.

Oh you know nothing Dark, our ancestors were all simps, same as your generation, same as mine.

Simp is a slang insult for men who are seen as too attentive and submissive to women, especially out of a failed hope of winning some entitled sexual attention or activity from them. ... The word simp is meant to troll young men for doing anything for a girl to get some action he supposedly deserves.

While I obviously joined a cult, it was a "let's save the world from killing each other" cult, not a "look at my butt look at my butt give me likes" cult

In my day it was a "Look at me, I work the hardest, the longest, the fastest, close the most cases!" cult. At least in the SO there was a cult of labor and work.

work more, sleep less
close it quickly, but don't leave a mess
all aboard and full speed ahead

don't look back, you can sleep when you're dead

It's always the same thing that makes life a living hell on this planet.

Implants.

Psych implants. Xenu implants, Gorilla Goal implants, Butt implants, et al.

Ask anyone in or near a ghetto (or a hip-hop wannabe) who is the hottest looking babe on the planet and they will answer Kim Kardashian. Why is that, one wonders. Here's why. . .

The-Kardashian-Butt-Must-Die.jpg

Kim after her "hugely successful" butt implants.
Who doesn't love that packed-diaper look?!

This is all part of the virally trending ghetto-ization of the culture, where brain sizes atrophy and hood booty dimensions soar to new record heights! "Big Butts Matter!" LOL.

Ooops, sorry! lol

But, I thought it would come as a welcome relief to all those who might have put on a few pounds weight during the pandemic.

However despite the above, you will be pleased to learn that i was going to send one or more photos EXPONENTIALLY MORE REPULSIVE and savagely politically incorrect to boot, and/or to booty! Alas (out of uncommon decency and a Christlike compassion that defies modern sensibilities) I chose the high road (less traveled) in order to spare everyone from those alternate and loathsome graphic depictions.

If you had witnessed one of those more advanced photo depictions, you would (instead) be thanking me for having contributed those two beach bikini bookends of the bountiful buttocks baroness. I believe you should give those photos some more time as it is an acquired taste to view such an Ideal Kardashianesque clumpy cottage cheese conglomerate that is bigger than Old St. Hill.

Kindly cc me on any COMMENDATION REPORTS you may wish to send up lines that may favorably impact my current goal to acquire Kha-Khan status on this planet.
