The Department of Justice didn’t hesitate to act.
Six senior leaders of UNOI were convicted by a federal jury for conspiracy to commit forced labor, and one of them was found guilty on five substantive counts of forced labor. The crimes involved children as young as eight, forced to work 12- to 16-hour days without pay, proper education, or medical care.
