The Washington Post is reporting that Tom Cruise turned down the chance to be on stage with President Trump on December 7 for the Kennedy Center Honors, and that Cruise had declined because of a “scheduling conflict.”
Honorees this time will include actor Sylvester Stallone, singer Gloria Gaynor, Broadway star William Crawford, country music legend George Strait, and the band KISS. But Cruise apparently bowed out.
Cruise’s team has not commented to the many media organizations that were asking about it, and we wanted to get your thoughts on what this could possibly mean.
Here’s what we know: Taking over the Kennedy Center and installing a new board was one of the many changes that President Trump made happen early in his second term in the White House. And among those board members is Trish Duggan, Scientology’s wealthiest and most generous donor, who has also been one of Trump’s biggest individual funders as well.
The second Trump administration has other ties to Scientology as well. The president named OT Scientologist and attorney John P. Coale to be his deputy envoy to Ukraine while key negotiations are going on. Another major Scientology donor, Grant Cardone, spoke at the Madison Square Garden rally a week before the election. And Pam Bondi, the new US Attorney General, has a long relationship with Scientology and has praised its “civil rights” agenda. We’ve also pointed out the connections between Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to OT Scientologist attorneys who are leading a years-long litigation war against the manufacturers of the devices used in ECT.
