[Leah Remini with Mike Rinder and the Headleys, Marc and Claire]
We were in court in January 2024 to see it happen: Scientology’s Religious Technology Center tried to get itself out of Leah Remini’s lawsuit, but affidavits the court allowed from Mike Rinder and Claire Headley kept it in.
Ever since then, RTC has been complaining loudly about those affidavits, and once again they bellyached about them in a new appellate court filing.
Leah sued the Church of Scientology International, RTC, and RTC Chairman David Miscavige in August 2023 for what she says has been a yearslong “Fair Game” harassment campaign intended to destroy her ability to make a living.
RTC is Scientology’s nominally controlling entity, with Miscavige at its helm, and Leah included them as defendants in order to make the point that no retaliation campaign against former church members or journalists takes place without the approval of RTC and Miscavige, who are really running the church.
But RTC complained that the specific examples of harassment that Leah was alleging — letter writing campaigns to the companies she was doing business with, or online attacks from social media accounts — had no connections to it. Why was RTC even in this lawsuit?
Judge Randolph Hammock granted Leah’s request for a little time as she had Mike and Claire write up affidavits about what they had seen in their many years in the highest echelons of Scientology: That no harassment campaign against someone like Leah would take place without planning and approval from RTC and Miscavige.
