In March, we got interested in which of Scientology’s celebrities were showing up to help church leader David Miscavige steer the organization out of the pandemic.
We went through Scientology’s own press releases at its websites in order to determine who had made the scene at the big annual events.
After not being held for a couple of years during COVID, the annual event to celebrate the birth of founder L. Ron Hubbard returned in March 2022, but was held in the church’s own Fort Harrison Hotel in its auditorium. And even in that scaled-down setting, it had a decent showing with Nancy Cartwright, Trish Duggan, Marisol Nichols, James Barbour, Emma Booth, Michael Roberts, and Catherine Bell.
The following year, at a 2023 birthday event also held at the Fort Harrison, actor Michael Peña attended, and it was the first time we remember seeing him show up for one. (He had, a decade earlier, showed up at a couple of Hollywood Celebrity Centre galas.) John Travolta was also in attendance, as well as Jenna and Bodhi Elfman.
