I've written on the old board about my experience with the local JWs. The lady who knocked on my door, Irene, had a trick of commanding the space in front of your doorway and, after a brief greeting, asking you a question about God or Christianity, as though she had all the right in the world to be there and take up your time.
For a while I was willing to play along (as people have noticed, I like arguing and debating issues). but I eventually tired of her as it became apparent that this was a waste of time and it wasn't a genuine discussion, and she wasn't going to change any of her views no matter what I said.
I was finally rude to her, which she didn't take well; I chased after her and protested bitterly to her that I felt she'd forced me into that position. I haven't heard from her or any other JWs since; this was about ten years ago.
Occasionally she did say something interesting, such as that Christmas is one of the prime recruiting times for the JWs because so many people get fed up with the Festivities (the JWs of course don't celebrate it).
I also worked on a local history project alongside a JW called Peter who before his conversion had been a Teddy Boy in the English Midlands, and because of this was able to communicate with and earn the respect of current day gang members whom other JWs couldn't.
