It seems right up till the end he was still trying to figure it all out. In some ways I feel most sorry for those who only partially let Scientology go. I don't mean to be insulting - he was a good man. But the hooks Hubbard had in him were very deep.

We had some good discussions with Ant on the old board. RIP (95 is a good age though).

I was just looking at some old Ivy magazines yesterday, while searching contents to clear off flash drive. Many of those issues had contributors from the early history. It seemed more like those folks were participating in intellectual salons where they reviewed new findings. This is so different than being ruled by some imperious iron hand which dictates to you a window to reality.
Funny that these great personalities all ended up expelled. It wasn't like they'd given up their passion for the investigations they'd undertaken. A firm belief that life could be better if accumulating traumas and decisions could be relieved, was central. They all wanted to help.
I'd talked to Ant on the phone once. At his advanced age he was still very energized about setting up subscriptions to help fund further goings on. Access to a library of all good things .
We've come to the end of an age, again.

Around the 11:45 mark it films an American arriving from Los Angeles in 67, wanting to get up to Level V on his Briefing Course.
"Americans abound. Scientology is a California export."
The narrator's voice during this scene is typical British sarcasm as the arrived LA resident continues banter with receptions.
"The headquarters in Sussex, sometimes seems a little American"
" In some ways, their trip to England reminds of one of the LSD trips young Californians are currently going on. For the young, a cut price cloud cuckoo-land, where anything seems possible. A mix of science fictiion and psychotherapy that gives their search for something better the blessing of a 'kind' of science.

Ant was a close friend of mine and I would say that he was doing fine. I think he had a good balance between his interest in Scientology-related matters and other aspects of life. Non-dogmatic would be correct to say in my view. And he was wise enough to never join the Sea Org despite his many years with the subject. He started with Scientology as early as 1954. I wasn't as wise myself since I joined the Sea Org at some point.
At the later years he was very much focused about two types of processing, the original Happiness Rundown and Speculative Questioning. You can read more on the link: I will just say a few words on the Happiness Rundown:
The original Happiness Rundown was published in 1981 when Ant was still in. He told me something rather interesting which is that the rundown had "great" results in that several persons left the organization as a result of the rundown. Not quite the result that was wanted in the church. One can only wonder why they left, but the rundown is very much concerned on that one maintains an ethical and decent behavior in one's life. So if one's intention and attention are on maintaining that kind of behavior one will have a tendency to leave a place where such matters are in jeopardy.
Ant and I had many other mutual interests apart from strong interest in spiritual aspects of life. We enjoyed making bike rides, going to various types of art exhibitions, going to railway museums and taking rides with veteran trains. Music was also a big subject for Ant as a listener. I am a professional musician myself so our experience with music is very different. Ant went to concerts regularly. He liked classical music including contemporary music which he sometimes found was rather fun.
Ant had a wonderful laughter and it was quite easy for him to get in the mood of a good and healthy laughter.
He started making plans for his next life quite a while ago, so his mood and intention was geared towards the future, but he was very much present here and now when he talked about those matters. I was at the hospital in his last time saying goodbye. He will be remembered for his great spirit and kindness. I will miss him.
