In February, we received an email from a longtime reader, asking for our help after his wife, whom we have called Dawn, received an unsolicited and unwanted sexual video from Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando.
Our story about that blew up across the media, and Dando announced that he was going into rehab.
And over that process, we got to know Dawn and her husband, who we’ll call Blake, pretty well.
In April, after we announced that we were bringing back HowdyCon, our annual convention that we held from 2016 to 2019, Blake sent us another message.
“It’s funny that the tagline for HowdyCon is Captain Howdy’s line, ‘Anyone who meets up with someone they know from the Internet is an idiot,’ because that’s how Dawn and I met, through a friend of a friend on Myspace,” he wrote.
“Dawn was friends with a band from London called Hard Fi — they played Letterman once — and she was flying to the UK to visit friends and see their London show. She asked me to meet her for a drink in London and that was it.
