warning--slight (but perhaps pleasant) derail...

If you ever want to collaborate on this project - brother - count me in.
.

Wow, cool.

The past few years I have been slowly working my way towards unwinding my business commitments so I have time to take on some creative projects. Exploring the concept of enantiodromia in a digestible short format as a guide to helping set/keep one's life on the right trajectory could be a revelation. I don't know, there may be many such efforts already in the marketplace of books and other publications.

When I say short I am thinking of an analogous book that consists of only 5000 Chinese characters that divides itself into 87 micro "chapters". The DAO DE CHING--the 2400 year old self-help masterpiece is so short the average amount of time to read it cover to cover is estimated to be only 35 minutes! Perhaps a half hour to read it--but a lifetime to digest and understand and learn how to use it.

When I can break out some time it would be a blast to chat with you about it and explore if there is a commercial vehicle that could be developed that fills a massive gap in the market. That would be such a fun project to collaborate on!

When I was falling asleep last night I thought of two things that might be good when it's time to dive into the fascinating concept of enantiodromia:

1. To start learning everything possible about the subject, beginning with a search for whether there is a TED TALK on it. Those are often brilliant short studies on subject by people who have long thought about and/or engaged their subjects in the real world.

2. Then I wondered what a TED TALK would look like if I tried to deliver it on the subject. I immediately got a funny but maybe memorable idea to give enantiodromia a nickname or shorter way to refer to it--and that's when the word "EOS" hit me. The E (obviously) is for enantiodromia. But I'll save the rest of it for another time and thread or discussion. But it's both memorable and (I think) very funny in an illustrative way.

I was about to end this post but got very curious if there actually was a TED TALK on the subject. And behold! I found one 5 seconds ago!

I just now (this moment) started listening to it with great interest and about 7 minutes into it, guess what the dude started talking about?

The DAO DE CHING (see above).

Weird, wacky, wonderful. Pure coincidence? LOL.

Here's the link to the Ted Talk if anyone is interested.

Generally speaking, and not about this guy in particular, the plotline of the story (and its variations) goes like this:
  • Man offered level of ability restored to eventually "pull the air covers off planets."
  • (--snipped--)
.

Sorry, I have not read your entire post yet. Because. . .

When I hit that highlighted line above, I just started laughing out loud and had to take a short break. Seriously.

I am nominating that line for consideration in the:

2021 ESMB MOST HILARIOUS
BATHOS MOMENTS AWARDS

* bathos -noun: (especially in a work of literature) an effect of anticlimax created by an unintentional lapse in mood from the sublime to the trivial or ridiculous.

Perfect.

Enantiodromia compared to the Dao De Ching is a drawn square compared to a cube, a circle to a sphere, or a triangle to a pyramid. The Dao De Ching has dimensions.

It’s not just that there’s an interwoven web of direct opposites in the world, but that the opposites give birth, life, love, meaning, pain, hatred, destruction, death and insignificance to each other. That’s ancient Chinese wisdom. In ancient Hinduism, Shiva, the God of destruction, is both loved and feared. He is like the surgeon that cuts out a cancer, but also the winter that destroys the crops.

There are so many levels of reading the Dao De Ching. Any different day you read it, the same verse can take on a different meaning. It is so simple that it only has meaning according to the reader’s experience and reflects that experience back as insight. The less description and verbiage in the translation, the more powerful the impact.

35 minutes to read and a lifetime to absorb, over and over again but differently because we change.

NOTE: I just finished watching that Ted Talk video titled "Enantiodromia".

Funny thing is, he didn't speak about or explain or illuminate the concept of enantiodromia.

Wait, is that a perfect example of something becoming the diametric opposite of what it is starts out being? LOL. Oh well, all research projects have to begin somewhere. . .

Maybe Chapter II of the Dao De Ching to some degree explains enantiodromia and the inextricable inter-relationship, cohabitation and marriage of opposites. . . especially the red-highlighted lines:

When everyone in the world sees beauty,
Then ugly exists.
When everyone sees good,
Then bad exists.
Therefore:
What is and what is not create each other.
Difficult and easy complement each other.
Tall and short shape each other.
High and low rest on each other.
Voice and tone blend with each other.
First and last follow each other. . .

Beautiful.😊

I love that, especially the last line: “First and last shall follow each other.”

Dimensions of the Dau De Ching … it can refer to any given moment. Wait a sec, was that about this forum? :coolwink:

Actually, that line adds more clarity to why White leads to Black, Good leads to Bad and Up leads to Down. I didn't see that line in all it's perfect relevance to enantiodromia until you pointed it out. So i went back and highlighted that one in red also! Thanks Sheila!

Cool stuff.

What was this thread about again? LOL

We never were off the thread topic, you know. We were discussing a man reaching what he thought was the peak of spiritual achievement and ending up tragically dead by jumping from a great height.

It was a completely opposite outcome than his original objective. Plenty of irony there. :heartflowers:

Tony Ortega now piles onto another deceased scio. Frank Suarez, Winteregg, two people fooled by the con doesn't enable someone to be so crass, I think.

Do not take this as a condemnation of Tony broadly. Attack scientology, please, but how about a little more consideration to those caught up in the lie. It's rather messy that he does this.

Tony’s theme this week seems to be that Scientology does not extend life and may shorten it.

At least the headlines are better than the original headline for Frank Suarez before Tony changed it.

Tony gives some interesting information about the hard-sell used by Scientologist dentists. Some also oversell services far beyond what they can schedule within a reasonable time. Not to even mention price-hiking.

I think Tony is a good guy and I'm glad he's out there. He did a lot over the years.

Doesn't change what I wrote before: Tony's sense of humor is sometimes off and the way he describes certain events is at times crass and crude.

Good people sometimes do, write or say stupid things. They're still good people.

The good stuff we do doesn't cancel out the bad, but neither does the bad stuff cancel out the good. Nobody is perfect, we are all just human.

... well gosh darnit, now that sure sounded profound, didn't it?

It is my opinion that we activists and whistleblowers are very LUCKY to have a Tony Ortega who relentlessly, no matter what fair game
no matter what fair game on his wife and family acts like an Associated Press/Reuters ~~ our very own personal news hub.
I can complain a bit, can't I? or not?

I will keep it to myself from now on, but it pains me sometimes for christ sakes!! These are people who have families. If one of my friends still in dies what will he say? I think my opinion might be shared by others, who knows, but they have the good sense to keep it to themselves. I don't. Hope he reads this.

Something for you to consider is that Greg was a public face and one of a handful of key sales people for MGB Management that solicited many thousands of healthcare professionals and accountants into improving their practices with LRH Admin tech and then while they were delivering these practice improvement programs would tell the practice owner that they, themselves were actually the thing holding the practice back and only personal Scientology services could resolve those and DOWN THE RABIT HOLE the customers went to the average outcome for a
scientologist - financial ruin, family ruin, disconnection.

Plenty of unanswered questions too.

From reports, he was in good health and - in spite having given Scientology Inc. lots of money - his finances were good. He had a successful business.

Yet, seven months ago, he committed suicide, or, as Scientology puts it, he "ended cycle."

Like the giddy Executive Director of the Orange County (California) Scientology Mission - shortly after L. Ron Hubbard had "causatively discarded his healthy body" in January of 1986 - did Frank Suarez want to "go, and be with Ron"?
The giddy ED spoke of getting to OT 15 and learning how to discard the body, and then doing so, and "going and being with Ron," but Frank Suarez had no such preparation.

What would have motivated him to commit suicide?

As a "whale" (a person who donates lots of money To Scientology Inc.), and as an all three Ls, Super Power completion, New OT 8, and a Scientology semi-celebrity, Scientology Inc. would know about him.

It would be in their files.

That information needs to be leaked.

Covering up deaths caused by Scientology is instinctive and automatic for Scientology Inc.

This appears to be yet another cover up.

No journalist human being can please 100% of the population 100% of the time.
Fixed it for you.

Don't mention it. I do it out of the goodness of my heart.

Oh come on, don't tell me you are gonna self-censor now. Don't go for this black-and-white thinking crap. :eyeroll:

Hubbard was a narcissist running a destructive high control group. And yet sometimes even he was right.

Tony is a guy who could easily make the same buck (or better) writing about something simple, safe and popular. Like baseball. We've been a part of this, but Tony decided to be in this shit with us out of his own free will. I respect that. He's a good guy fighting the good fight. And yet sometimes even he is wrong.

Heck, sometimes even I am wrong. The world is THAT crazy at times.

I guess that will make us into osa mofos. Whatever.
Welcome to OSA! Great to have you join us. Prepare yourself for that big gulp of kool aid and get ready for the Miscavige two-step.
