One thing that struck me after I'd read this very sad story.
Every single person whom Romey would have dealt with in Scientology would have been 100% convinced that they were Doing The Right Thing or, if they weren't and had at least a scintilla of doubt as to their course of action, would have had superiors who were themselves convinced that they were Doing The Right Thing and whom they were afraid to displease. There is no room for self-correction in Scientology.
