The Danny Masterson Trial thread

As bad as Masterson's situation may be I believe he can have a big win by using the successful action of O.J. Simpson. He can write a book entitled "If I did it" and probably some publishing house will write him a decent size check.
Or have Scientology TV produce a TV series that would star him. I even know the perfect title:

"That '50s Cult"

Yes, that's exactly right.

It's well proven that there are literally no depths of depravity that cannot be exploited for financial gain by sociopathic narcissists like Masterson.

I wonder how long it will take for his "loyal" wife to split.

I wonder if Celebrity Centre will ever allow him back inside.

I wonder what percentage of Scientologists are happy to "flow power" to him with cheerful encouragement and hugs when he enters a room.

One thing I know about most Scientologists, for sure. That they will inevitably choose a raving "SP" (e.g. Miscavige, Hubbard, et al) over a sane and truthful person of good will.

I'd bet a bundle that if the rape trials were instead done as "COS ARBITRATIONS", Masterson would be found INNOCENT 100% of the time. And probably 70-80% of those "justice" actions would have punished the rape victims.

That mention of audio recording just above....set off my spider tingling senses....

Pure speculation on my part.....but I think it is possible that Masterson has video recordings of some of his conquests.....
IMO just fits that someone that worked in front of a camera most of his life...would think to video himself...to see how he looked?

Has that ever been looked into? I guess the Police did search his home and phone....

I suspect that the PROSECUTION will benefit by all the additional time to advance their case with more compelling evidence, a better voir dire screening and some other unexpected twists and turns. For example what if it is leaked that one of the jury members (the holdout) was somehow tainted or touched by the black hands of the cult---or what if it turns out they did not answer truthfully during the jury selection process.

I am not guessing nor predicting but with such an overwhelming amount of incriminating and corroborated evidence and multiple victim testimony--something is very wrong about that "reasonable doubt" justification for not convicting him.

It's not unusual for humans to have wildly different perceptions of the identical information--so that might be the case, too. For example, there are vast numbers of US citizens who would convict Elon Musk right now for "destroying our democracy", "destroying the right to free speech", "inciting widespread violence", "domestic terrorism" and being "literally worse than Hitler". They can do that with zero evidence, so it's not hard to imagine the opposite in Masterson's case—that with overwhelming evidence they find a serial rapist innocent.

A hung jury with a new trial in 2023 is not the news that the prosecution and rape victims wanted to hear. But it's also not the good news that Masterson was expecting. He's in purgatory now with one foot firmly planted in hell. He can't get acting roles and earn. His assets are dramatically reduced and the next trial will crash his finances even worse. His reputation is shit. Probably most all of his friends and professional associates are shunning him to preserve their own reputations. Scientology has got to be eyeing him like a pack of hungry wolves that just found an injured deer who can't run. What's an egomaniacal sociopathic serial rapist to do?

In situations like these, I always predict the unpredictable. I would suspect that we will see more prosecution witnesses in next trial.

Keep a good supply of popcorn on the Danny Masterson story.

And another report.

This one goes into the Scientology angle a bit more..... I think the "Scientology Angle" being hamstrung....was a part of the problem....

I just don't see how he could have thought that he'd get a not guilty verdict.
He must be a total lunatic.....

I predict no next trial. State will elect not to retry and case will be dropped.
Numbers were not even close. Waste of time at this point, IMO.

Count 1: 2 for guilty, 10 for not guilty
Count 2: 4 for guilty, 8 for not guilty
Count 3: 5 for guilty, 7 for not guilty

My previous prediction on Nov 8:

My prediction, irrespective of "cosmic justice" . . .

He walks on this one. He said, she said from 20 years ago
is gonna be hard to send somebody to the slammer for 45 years.
Someone on the jury will hang it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If the victims feel devastated by this, they surely need to know that they
were not let down by the wog justice system, as much as were screwed
by the COS justice system. That was "basic-basic" on this chain.

Let the civil trial go forward. Less of a burden of proof.

I agree.

And I don't think there will be a civil trial. Miscavige will heavily pressure Masterson to quietly settle.

Wow, amazing jury count! I didn't know that until I read your post.

I do remember your prediction that he would walk. I also remember my prediction that he would be found guilty of 2 of the 3.
You called that one perfectly! As such, the Church of Hoaxology has already shipped you a three-tiered bowling trophy!

Although I will receive no bowling trophies, I do not feel sorrow. Because all the losing contestants have been promised a free personally autographed color photo of Minister Masterson!

I said earlier that I thought the prosecution made a mistake by over-charging in a "he said/she said" case.

And I realize that the following may be controversial with some here.

If he faced at most a year in prison, I could see jurors decide "Yeah, he's a scumbag, put him away". For charges that were effectively a life sentence, jurors were going to need to be REALLY REALLY convinced that Danny was somebody so bad that he needed to be put away for life, to protect society.

That jury was not going to decide that prison space was better used for keeping Danny locked up, than for armed robbers, gang bangers, and killers.

I agree.

And I don't think there will be a civil trial. Miscavige will heavily pressure Masterson to quietly settle.

The rape victims might well elect a "WE ARE DEFINITELY GOING FORWARD WITH A SECOND CRIMINAL TRIAL" strategy. If that was simply a bluff, it might jack up Masterson's terror factor that he is going to spend years and millions of dollars more fighting both the criminal and civil trials.

That might make him want to SETTLE before all that begins to play out with a NUMBER that is substantially larger than otherwise. Naturally, this would be predicated on a very delicate negotiation where the plaintiffs go away on the criminal trials.

Obviously the prosecution cannot try a case where the victims are unwilling to testify. But there are legal nuances of how that negotiation would have to unfold so that one day "out of the blue" the rape victims would suddenly inform the prosecution team that they had reached a settlement in the civil litigation. And the plaintiffs' attorneys would let the prosecutor know that their clients just "want to put this whole thing behind them and get on with their lives".

If the number is big enough, the plaintiffs might well decide to let the criminal charges be dropped.

I wonder what the magic number would be. I don't know Masterson's net worth, that's the real question. If for example his net worth is $22M (LINK) the plaintiffs might be okay with $4M each. From that sum they would have to pay their attorneys which might leave them each a net sum of appx. $2.5M (before taxes). In theory, Masterson would still have his house and some other assets, retaining a net worth of appx. $10M. Not a bad deal for all parties to sign and walk away from.

So, the jury found 11 guilty counts out of a potential total of 36. That is 30.5%.

I wondered if the result was simply a function of the trial being held in the sanctuary state California.

So I did the math to determine what percentage of Californians would happily vote in favor of a pathological liar and criminal.

DATA ANALYSIS: In the 2020 election, California voters only voted for Joe Biden's opponent 29.2% of the time.

30.5% and 29.2% are well within the margin of error and therefore statistically identical.

That explains the Masterson jury's vote.

I am a simple man and like simple answers. LOL

Well guys, it is a mistrial. They jury was not able to agree. This was my prediction from October 28th:
But Cohen will want to push this case to a "he-said-she-said" state for all 3 alleged victims. Then he is gonna tell to the jury: "You can't convince him if there's any reasonable doubt - and there is reasonable doubt here."
Admittedly, I didn't expect that so many of the jurors would find him not guilty. I was expecting a mistrial because 1 or two jurors would hold out. Not half of them.

I am surprised about the splits - A lot didn't think what he did was out of line. sheesh.

Mimsey
I can't read their minds, but I suspect it is not that someone in the jury thinks drugging and raping women in OK. Rather they aren't entirely sure if this had happened at all. There's very little evidence right now other than the testimonies of the witnesses. Goes down into a "he said - they said" thing. The jurors voting "not guilty" probably think that it is a very real possibility that the Jane Does are lying and have conspired to shake down Danny for some cash.

After cases like the fake rape conspiracy against Johnny Depp, the juries are gonna be more wary. That' s exactly why false rape charges are so pernicious and destructive - they make actual rape victims have a much harder time getting believed.

Rape cases are tough. Especially with little physical evidence, a long time before reporting etc.
The outcome of this trial surprises me a bit less than the Paul Haggis trial. In his case it was just one woman, the circumstances were far less suspicious, there was even less witness testimony or evidence.
It is surprising that Paul was found guilty, while Danny walked. Even though the weight of the evidence and testimony was much heavier against Danny than against Paul Haggis.

... all that I said above is the 'charitable' interpretation of what the Masterson jury did. What would be the uncharitable interpretation? This:

There is determination in Jane Does #2 and #3 who made a statement

Excerpt:
“We would first like to thank the jury for its public service,” Jane Doe #2 and Jane Doe #3, both former Scientologists, said in a statement along with others in the currently stayed civil case against Masterson and the Church of Scientology. “We are obviously disappointed that, at least for the time being, Daniel Masterson has evaded criminal accountability for his deplorable acts. However, we are collectively resolved to continue our fight for justice, including in civil court, where we have alleged that Mr. Masterson, along with the Church of Scientology, its leader David Miscavige, and others conspired to systematically stalk, harass, and intimidate us when we sought to shed light on Mr. Masterson’s actions. This legal fight is far from over, and it is critical that we reckon with Scientology’s alleged role in covering up reports of abuse and threatening victims.”
