The Artificial Intelligence Revolution

A post on X from Sam Altman yesterday:

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right. Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases. In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing). In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Sam Altman is a married gay man. Maybe he's got sex on his mind a bit too
much. I think he's twisted upstairs from what I've heard and read about him.
Weird cat. Weirdo!

Many red flags in the "must watch" interview below.

Repost
Here's an interview of the guy at the head of the company (OpenAI) that will be responsible for
molding the ideas floating around in the culture and essentially the entire world once his General AI
(AGI), and Superintelligent AI become ubiquitous. I don't know if I trust him after watching this interview
and reading the book Empire of AI: Dreams and Nightmares in Sam Altman's OpenAI by Karen Hao.
I loved the book and the author's YT interviews.

Also, Sam Altman's sister alleged that he sexually abused her beginning when she was age three and he was twelve. I don't know the current status of the case, but she filed a lawsuit against him. This is a video published back in January of this year by the Law & Crime Network.

AI-generated summary of the video in the spoiler:

This video covers a lawsuit filed by Ann Altman against her brother Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, alleging nearly a decade of sexual abuse during their childhood. The case, filed in Missouri federal court, details disturbing allegations spanning from 1997 to 2006, when Ann was between 3-12 years old and Sam was 12-21. The Altman family has issued a strong denial, suggesting Ann suffers from mental health issues and characterizing the lawsuit as another attempt to extract money. The case raises questions about Sam Altman's reputation and OpenAI's future, particularly as the company transitions to a for-profit structure.

Top Twenty Takeaways

  1. The Allegations: Ann Altman accuses her brother Sam of sexual abuse that allegedly occurred over approximately 8-9 years, starting when she was 3 years old and he was 12.
  2. Legal Claims: The lawsuit includes charges of rape, molestation, sexual assault, sodomy, and battery, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.
  3. Timing and Statute: Ann filed the lawsuit at age 30 (now 31), utilizing Missouri's childhood sexual abuse statute that allows victims to sue up to 10 years after turning 21 or within 3 years of discovering the abuse's impact.
  4. Frequency of Alleged Abuse: According to the complaint, the abuse occurred "several times per week" from 1997-1999 and continued in various forms until Ann was 11-12 years old.
  5. Grooming Allegations: The lawsuit claims Sam manipulated Ann into believing the sexual acts were her idea, despite her being under 5 years old when the abuse allegedly began.
  6. Damages Sought: Ann is suing for at least $75,000 (the federal court minimum), but the actual damages requested exceed this amount and could be significantly higher if punitive damages are awarded.
  7. Prior Public Allegations: This isn't the first time Ann has made these claims—she's posted about the alleged abuse on social media platform X since 2021.
  8. Family's Response: The Altman family, including Sam's mother and two younger brothers, issued a statement denying all allegations and claiming Ann suffers from mental health issues.
  9. Financial Support Claims: The family states they've provided extensive support to Ann, including monthly payments, rent coverage, employment assistance, and an offer to buy her a house through a trust.
  10. Multiple Accusations: Beyond sexual abuse, Ann has allegedly accused family members of withholding their deceased father's 401K funds, hacking her WiFi, and shadow-banning her on ChatGPT and Twitter/X.
  11. Sam Altman's Profile: At 39, Sam Altman is co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, which is valued at $157 billion and backed by Microsoft, making him one of tech's most influential figures.
  12. No Current Equity: Despite his position, Sam Altman reportedly doesn't currently hold equity in OpenAI, though he's expected to receive a 7% stake as the company transitions to for-profit status.
  13. Net Worth: Sam Altman's personal net worth is estimated at $1.1 billion according to Forbes.
  14. Legal Strategy Uncertainty: It's unclear whether the Altman family will aggressively defend, seek dismissal, or file counter-claims like defamation, though the statement suggests they'll try to get the case dismissed.
  15. Attorney's Response: Ann's lawyer, Ryan Mahoney, rejected the family's explanation, stating it's common for families to deny sibling sexual abuse and that there's no evidence Ann's mental health contributed to her allegations.
  16. Due Diligence Requirements: Legal ethics and civil procedure rules require attorneys to conduct due diligence before filing, suggesting Ann's lawyer believes there's factual support for the claims.
  17. Evidence Questions: The case's strength may depend on corroborating evidence such as medical records, expert testimony, texts, emails, or witness accounts beyond Ann's testimony alone.
  18. Discovery Process: While the complaint may seem barebones now, the litigation and discovery process is designed to develop claims more fully with evidence.
  19. Potential Impact on OpenAI: The lawsuit could damage Sam Altman's and OpenAI's reputation, particularly as the company undergoes a major transition to for-profit status.
  20. PR Battle: Both sides appear engaged in a public relations battle, with the family's statement seemingly aimed at controlling the narrative and protecting Sam's position at OpenAI.

Here's a post I made on another thread regarding Musk's desire to colonize Mars.

No big rush - If he wants to get to Mars in a hurry and does it with his own money go ahead. I suppose I could ask AI how much money he gets from the government but for me it's getting a bit odd that every question I come up with I can go ask AI for an answer. A new way of thinking

Big difference from not so old ways of getting information.

His company, OpenAI, has been valued at about 500 billion dollars, the highest of any privately owned company!

Whether you love or hate Tucker Carlson, he did an incredible interview recently with Sam Altman. More like an interrogation than an interview. :D

It's been posted a couple of times, but I'll post it again below; it's worth watching. One of his employees turned whistleblower, appeared to have been murdered, but the death was ruled a suicide. That subject was the best part of the interview IMO. :coolwink:

I'm a low tech person but I have been following with interest the rapid advancement of AI technology.

I'll start off with a post I just made on another thread.

Maybe a way to prevent misadventures like falling in love with an AI bot is to make it a requirement or law that all bots refer to themselves as "we" rather than "I" to constantly remind people that they are communicating with a machine and not a person.

Of course at some time in the future they might get so smart that they start insisting humans refer to them using their own preferred pronouns. There might even be a niche market for trans bots and so on. Wow

One idea I had -- this could be done with or without AI -- is to have a chatbot imitate a real person (but not in an attempt to make people believe that the bot is that person). It could look like, act like, and use the same phrases as them. For example, if a loved one has died, "replace" them as best they can. Or if you're dumped, to act like the dumper, who suddenly decided to be nice again (I could go for that!) Or if they are a personal enemy, act like them while you chase them with machine guns, nuclear missles, or whatever (I could go for that, too).

I suppose this could escalate to the point where users could get completely detached from reality, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

Laughter! I don't see myself using AI bots too much, maybe asking it for advice on mundane things like how to fix a leaky faucet and so on.

Now that I'm up to speed on the magnitude of change, it seems that everyone who uses a computer as well as society as a whole will be affected, maybe even changing the way we think.

For example, a few years ago I might have posted an educated guess about a statistic or event. Now the thought almost immediately impinges, "Go to AI and get the actual stat!" Forget that - I'm not gonna edit myself on everything I say or post. Talk about introversion! Lol

There might be "four way" conversations between two people in the near future:

"Myself and my bot disagree with you and your bot. Let's talk about it."

Scientology "Communication Training Routines" might get complicated.

Carlson keeps trying to pin him down to a yes/no or right/wrong answer for which there are none. I find it annoying and I got about halfway through the interview before I turned it off. The ethical considerations have already been extensively debated all over the place.

You jumped on my post before I was finished. lol

suicide, gay marriage, access to bio weapons tech, is there a God, AI use in military weapons etc.

There are dozens of these ethical questions and Altman was doing his best explaining that they are under consideration as to how to address them. Altman points out that the huge and increasing amount of current usage and input might provide some answers.

Here is Tucker Carlson's interview with his mother and IMO it appears he was assassinated. Suchir was a whistleblower.
What a company worth $500 billion would do to silence?
Look at what a $3 billion dollar human trafficking cult does to harm and abuse human beings in broad daylight.... while pretending to be a CHURCH.... they and have gotten away with it for 75 years and continue to get away with it.

Sam Altman told Tucker that he believes the death was a suicide.

I've not seen any evidence to suggest that it was a suicide. :faceslap:

Here's another interview, this one conducted several months after the one with Tucker, and featuring both parents. There is important information shared that hadn't been shared in the first interview.

"There’s A Second Bullet" – OpenAI Whistleblower's Parents REVEAL New Evidence & Autopsy BOMBSHELL

Patrick Bet-David interviews Poornima Ramarao and Balaji Ramamurthy, the parents of OpenAI whistleblower Suchir Balaji, who was found dead under suspicious circumstances. They share Suchir's life story, the details of his case, and shocking new evidence that brings into question the official narrative of Suchir's death.

AI-generated summary of the video transcript:

This is an interview with Poornima and Balaji, the parents of Suchir Balaji, a 26-year-old OpenAI whistleblower who was found dead in his San Francisco apartment on November 26, 2024. The death was officially ruled a suicide, but his parents present extensive evidence suggesting it may have been a homicide. Suchir had publicly criticized OpenAI's copyright violations in a New York Times article and was set to testify as a custodian witness in the New York Times lawsuit against OpenAI.

Top 15 Takeaways
  1. Suchir's Background: Child prodigy who started coding at age 7, built computers at 13, wrote a quantum computing paper at 14, graduated Berkeley with a 4.0 GPA, and was the lead researcher on WebGPT (the foundation for ChatGPT).
  2. Whistleblower Activity: Suchir publicly criticized OpenAI for copyright violations in an October 23, 2024 New York Times article, arguing the company illegally used copyrighted material to train AI models.
  3. New York Times Lawsuit: On November 18, 2024, just days before his death, Suchir was named as one of 10 custodian witnesses in the New York Times copyright lawsuit against OpenAI.
  4. Suspicious Death Circumstances: Found dead on November 26, 2024 (his apartment wasn't accessed until the 26th, though he last communicated on November 22nd). Police declared it suicide within 20 minutes.
  5. Camera Failures: Multiple security cameras mysteriously stopped working: elevator camera (disconnected November 14th, a week before death), garage camera, and neighbor's CCTV all malfunctioned during the critical time period.
  6. Initial Police Assessment: Body camera footage captured officers initially discussing this as "a homicide scene" at 1:13 PM, but by 2:20 PM they declared it suicide.
  7. Crime Scene Contamination: An officer entered the scene and touched evidence including the gun box with bare hands, without gloves, contaminating the crime scene.
  8. Evidence of Possible Second Bullet: Private radiologists identified what appears to be a second 9mm bullet lodged in the back of the throat at the skull base, which the medical examiner failed to detect.
  9. Tongue Injury: Autopsy photos show a hole in the center of the tongue with extensive lacerations and abrasions on the edges, unexplained by the official narrative.
  10. Blood Alcohol Level: Toxicology showed .178 blood alcohol level (over 2x legal limit) and possible GHB, despite Suchir being only a social drinker with no alcohol bottles found in the apartment.
  11. Physical Injuries: Unexplained injuries including a head wound, broken cheekbone, and knee injury that were not mentioned in the official autopsy report.
  12. Ransacked Bedroom: Living room was clean, but bedroom was completely ransacked with drawers left open, suggesting someone was searching for something (possibly a pen drive with evidence).
  13. Gun Evidence Inconsistencies: No blood on the gun muzzle despite being a "contact wound," and the spent casing remained in the chamber rather than ejecting, suggesting someone may have been holding his hand.
  14. Political Connections: San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie appointed Sam Altman as one of seven co-chairs of his transition team on November 17, 2024—just 5 days before Suchir's last communication and 9 days before his body was found.
  15. Pattern of Deaths: Parents mention Cyrus Parsa, another AI whistleblower found dead by gunshot wound in Los Angeles exactly 3 months later under similar circumstances, suggesting a potential pattern of silencing AI industry critics.

Wow ^^^^ it’s unbelievable how obvious it was that he was savagely murdered and nothing was done about it. Swept under the rug with no accountability within our justice system.

I feel very sad for the poor guy, his parents & family.

I feel sickened as to how corrupt the US justice system is.

I never heard of this guy before yesterday, but I did some searching about him just now. If he died under similar circumstances to the OpenAI whistleblower, that would be even more disturbing to me than what appears to have been the murder of the former OpenAI employee.

The OpenAI whistleblower seems to have been murdered because he was a serious threat to OpenAI, now valued at half of a trillion dollars.
But one of Cyrus Parsa's primary purposes was to warn humanity about the dangers of AI.

[
Summary

Dr. Roman Yampolskiy, a computer scientist who coined the term "AI safety," discusses the existential risks posed by artificial general intelligence (AGI) and superintelligence. He argues that while AI capabilities are advancing exponentially, safety measures remain inadequate and linear. Yampolskiy predicts AGI by 2027, humanoid robots by 2030, and a technological singularity by 2045. He believes controlling superintelligence is impossible, compares humanity's situation to a "French bulldog trying to predict human behavior," and suggests we're likely living in a simulation. Despite working on AI safety for 15+ years, he's convinced that safe superintelligence is an unsolvable problem, yet continues his work to prove its impossibility and discourage reckless development.

Top 25 Takeaways

  1. AGI Timeline: Prediction markets and major AI labs predict artificial general intelligence (AGI) will arrive by 2027—just 2-3 years away.
  2. Safety Gap: AI capabilities are advancing exponentially while safety measures progress only linearly, creating a dangerous and widening gap.
  3. Unemployment Crisis: By 2030-2035, we could see 99% unemployment as AI and humanoid robots replace humans in virtually all occupations, not just 10%.
  4. Impossible to Control: Controlling superintelligence is fundamentally impossible—it's not just difficult, but belongs to a class of unsolvable problems in computer science.
  5. Black Box Problem: Even AI creators don't fully understand what's happening inside their systems; they discover capabilities through experimentation, not engineering.
  6. No Retraining Solution: Unlike previous technological disruptions, there's no "plan B" job to retrain for when AI can do everything humans can do, but better.
  7. Patching Doesn't Work: Current AI safety measures are just patches on top of general intelligence, similar to HR manuals—smart systems always find workarounds.
  8. French Bulldog Analogy: Humans trying to predict superintelligent AI is like a dog trying to understand why its owner does a podcast—completely outside its model of reality.
  9. Can't Just Unplug It: Turning off superintelligence is impossible—it's a distributed system like Bitcoin, and it will be smart enough to create backups and predict threats.
  10. Cheaper Over Time: Training AI models becomes exponentially cheaper each year; eventually "some guy on a laptop" could create superintelligence without oversight.
  11. Simulation Theory Probability: Yampolskiy is near-certain (close to 100%) that we're living in a simulation, based on the affordability of running billions of simulations.
  12. Narrow AI Is Enough: Current AI technology can already replace 60% of jobs but hasn't been fully deployed—we don't need AGI for massive economic transformation.
  13. 2030 Humanoid Robots: By 2030, humanoid robots will have the dexterity to perform all physical labor, including skilled trades like plumbing.
  14. 2045 Singularity: Ray Kurzweil's predicted singularity year when AI-driven progress becomes so fast humans can't keep up or understand new technology.
  15. Ethical Experimentation Impossible: You cannot get informed consent from humans for superintelligence experiments because the outcomes are unpredictable and unexplainable.
  16. Corporate Incentives: AI companies have legal obligations only to make money for investors, not moral or ethical obligations to humanity.
  17. Sam Altman's Vision: Yampolskiy suspects Sam Altman wants to control the "light cone of the universe"—every part accessible by light from Earth.
  18. Longevity Escape Velocity: With AI accelerating medical research, we may achieve "longevity escape velocity" where life expectancy increases faster than time passes.
  19. Bitcoin as Scarce Resource: In a world of AI abundance, Bitcoin is the only truly scarce resource that can't be replicated, making it valuable long-term.
  20. Meta-Solution Argument: Superintelligence either solves all existential risks (climate change, wars) or kills everyone first—making it the most important problem regardless.
  21. Religious Parallels: All religions essentially describe simulation theory—a superintelligent creator making a test world—just with local cultural variations.
  22. No One Switches Sides: Many people go from careless AI developer to safety researcher; virtually no one goes from safety concern to "nothing to worry about."
  23. Novel Extinction Pathways: Superintelligence could devise completely novel ways to cause human extinction beyond what we can imagine (viruses, physics exploits, etc.).
  24. Survival Bias Prevents Action: Humans are evolutionarily designed not to worry about inevitable negative outcomes they can't control—which is why we sleep well despite the threat.
  25. Build Narrow, Not General: The solution is to focus on narrow AI for specific problems (like curing cancer) rather than racing toward uncontrollable general superintelligence.

/SPOILER]

I came across this while posting on another thread and I'm just tossing it in here after seeing it mentioned in the time stamp above. 4 minutes :)

The AI video above was interesting and even gave me a few laughs and memorable lines. I should have written them down and I might watch it again and do so.

Years ago I got interested in a philosophy called Neo-Tech and read a couple of books by the author Frank R. Wallace. Thumbnail description:

Neo-Tech® (or perhaps ZONpower) is a bizarre self-help ... something. It sells a mystery soup of claimed secrets of the world known only to the famous and successful! ... that turns out to be warmed-over Objectivism. It was created in 1984 by Frank R. Wallace

Along with some quackery he also had some interesting ideas, some of them similar to the guy in the video like seeking bodily immortality. Another was mentioning that for any civilization in the universe to survive it must get past what he called "The Nuclear Threshold", a point where all civilizations would discover nuclear energy and blow themselves up - or not. I guess we now need to add "The AGI Threshold" to ways we can self destruct. ouch

Afterthought - I wonder if anyone has added AI into the mix which creates the Doomsday Clock.

edit: As usual AI knows everything and I can answer my own question. No doubt Dr. Roman would like to see AI at the top of the list.
...................................................................................................

Core elements used in setting the clock
  • Nuclear proliferation: This includes the status of nuclear stockpiling, arms control treaties, and the risk of nuclear war. The clock was initially created to reflect the threat of nuclear weapons in 1947, and it remains a primary focus.
  • Climate change: The board evaluates the seriousness of climate change, including international agreements, greenhouse gas emissions, and the effects of policies related to the issue.
  • Disruptive technologies: The clock now considers a wide range of emerging technologies that could pose catastrophic risks, such as:
    • Biological threats: This includes concerns about biosecurity and the potential for pandemics, highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • Cybersecurity: The threat of cyber warfare and other cybersecurity risks is a factor in setting the clock.
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI): The board assesses the development and potential risks associated with artificial intelligence and the steps being taken to govern it.
