[Scientology leader David Miscavige is all-in for Masterson]
On Saturday, we told you that the court docket in Danny Masterson’s criminal appeal indicated that the Church of Scientology was still backing him in a big way by filing an amicus curiae (“friend of the court”) brief on his behalf.

We have now received a copy of that brief from the court, and we know you’re going to want to see it in its entirety.

As you will see, Scientology (and when we say that, of course we mean its micromanaging leader, David Miscavige), is all in for Masterson, saying that his conviction should be overturned because of the trial court’s animosity against his religion.

Scientology also reminds the court that this isn’t the first time it has attempted to file an amicus brief on Masterson’s behalf. In February 2022, the church was super upset with how things had gone down in the preliminary hearing, and tried to get the attention of the court over its objections to some of Judge Charlaine Olmedo’s rulings. That attempt went nowhere, and Masterson’s two trials ensued.

This time, however, the church is submitting an amicus brief on behalf of a convicted serial rapist sitting in prison doing 30 years to life.

As you can imagine, the gaslighting is extreme. There is no “Fair Game,” this document tells us, one of Scientology’s favorite lies, that it no longer retaliates against former members and other “enemies” in a programmatic, coordinated way. (It most definitely does, as so many former high-ranking members have all said.) It also tells us that Scientologists are not taught to believe they are to blame for the problems in their lives, including being victimized by criminals, and that they “pulled it in.” (We have never met a former Scientologist who says this isn’t true.) These things said about Scientology in court were all lies, this brief says, and Dave’s greatest ire is aimed at Claire Headley, his former high-ranking executive who was allowed to testify as an expert on the Scientology mindset.
