Scientology has filed multiple petitions with Los Angeles Superior Court, seeking writs to force the city of Los Angeles to comply with state records law to turn over LAPD records regarding a couple of longstanding controversies.

One involves allegations made by Chrissie Bixler and her husband Cedric Bixler-Zavala that Scientology was responsible for the death of two of their dogs.
And the other is about the leak of information about Shelly Miscavige, the vanished wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige, information that was reported by Yashar Ali in 2023.

On October 31, Scientology attorney Kendrick Moxon filed the petition regarding Bixler’s allegations about the dogs. She alleged that her dog Ethel died in 2017 in Austin from an injury to its neck, and alleged that her dog Biscuit was poisoned in Los Angeles in 2020, and blamed Scientology for both incidents. (Bixler, her husband, and three other women are suing Scientology and Danny Masterson over numerous allegations of harassment that they claim began when the women went to the LAPD with sex assault allegations against the That ‘70s Show actor. Masterson was convicted on two counts of forcible rape based on those allegations and is serving 30 years to life in prison. The lawsuit over the claims of harassment is currently held up in appellate court on a preliminary ruling.)

Moxon’s petition claims that not only were these allegations false and that Scientology had nothing to do with the dogs’ deaths, but that the LAPD knew they were false and passed them along to the District Attorney’s office anyway, for use in the prosecution against Danny Masterson.

On behalf of the church, Moxon has made multiple attempts to get records from the LAPD about communications it had with Bixler about the allegations, only to be told that they were investigatory records that the police department didn’t have to turn over.
