Scientology held yet another grand opening this weekend, this time right on Cleveland Street and Osceola Avenue in downtown Clearwater.
Was it a new church? An “Ideal Org”? A thetan rendering plant?
It was none of those things. Instead, it was a “showroom” that Scientology is touting as a place where locals can come in and see what the church has in store for this beleaguered gulf coast town it first invaded surreptitiously in 1975.
(And before we get to what Scientology says about its new downtown bauble, what it didn’t mention in its press release about the photo above is that if the camera were turned around 180 degrees, it would be facing the Skyview condominium tower, which includes Tom Cruise’s two-story penthouse suite. Tom’s neighbors in the building — who are mostly, like him, wealthy Scientologists — were no doubt thrilled to have a large crowd milling around outside their apartments.)
Last September, we told you about Scientology’s supposed plans for Cleveland Street, that it is restoring old storefronts and says it’s going to put in new businesses at some unknown date in the future.
What called for this major grand opening, apparently, is that they have opened “The Good Life Showroom” at the corner of Cleveland and Osceola to preview those same plans, but in a fancy new setting.
It includes a wavy video wall…
