A fellow journalist alerted us this week to a rather bizarre set of emails that showed up in the newest batch of Epstein files.

It turns out that Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and convicted pedophile, was sending money to legendary underground journalist and satirist Paul Krassner in the last few years before his 2019 death at 87, and Krassner showed his gratitude by emailing press clippings and other things he thought might amuse Epstein. (As you can imagine, some of Krassner’s friends are now wrestling with this uncomfortable news. “I’d prefer to think they were not close at all,” one wrote, hoping that Krassner had nothing to do with Epstein’s horrific sexual criminality. And there’s nothing in the emails to suggest that he did.)
