Been there once. About 3-4 years ago.

I live in Sydney these days. I was Foundation Auckland late 70s.

No, not THAT Sidney...

There were a few other Aussies here, but they have moved on.

Hey Lenny, I'm not from Australia. But welcome!

:welcome2:

I'm in Florida now but from New England originally and got in at Boston Org.

During the late 80's I worked a bit for Social Coordination International (now ABLE) in Los Angeles and we had a staff member in our network named Jasmine who I believe was based in Melbourne.

There are things I dislike about Florida, but at least we don't have kangaroos. :D

Here's one trying to break into someone's home.
Yeah, it doesn't understand glass.

They aren't all that smart. If you look at their heads, there isn't a lot of space there for a brain.

I don't know if you ever watched Skippy the bush kangaroo. The guys who did the show were asked how they trained her. They replied, "Train a roo? They're too stupid to train. Everything you saw was camera trickery."

The world was already quite global more than fifty years ago since this TV show was on when I was a kid in Switzerland. I liked it.

Yeah, it was a cool show in the day.

It was shot in Ku-ring-gai National park, (also known as Waratah park) which is between the Sydney CBD and the Northern Beaches. So even though it seemed to depict a place in the remote bush, it was actually almost pretty much suburban and not far from our local TV studios..

I saw a doco on the show several years ago and some of the way things were done was pretty clever and no, much of it was wildly inaccurate. Fi

Ku-ring-gai was an Aboriginal word describing the home or hunting ground of the local people, so this is possibly the origin of the name.

My wife grew up around that area after her family moved over from the UK in the mid 60s.

Australia was pretty much a mysterious country to the world then, so the show helped to put us on the map.

I was still living in NZ then as a kid.

Bit more about the series and the making of it:

Hey,

I am based in the Western suburbs of Melbourne, was on staff at FSO, happy to chat, as not too many people get it in the real world :)

Quite a set of claws on that roo. I wouldn't want to tangle with it.

I'd be most concerned about getting kicked by one!

Kangaroos have muscular hind legs that can exert a kick force of about 759 pounds. They also have powerful tails and a punch force of about 275 pounds. Kangaroos also have powerful jaws and a bite force of up to 925 PSI – about the same force as a grizzly bear and almost six times stronger than humans.
