Janis Gillham Grady and Mark Fisher are joined by April Hall and Jackie Wolff to remember Matt Henderson, a former Sea Org member and Scientologist who recently passed away much too soon. They share personal stories and memories, including his time on the "flag ship" Apollo in the 1970s. This discussion offers a glimpse into growing up and working in Scientology and the painful Scientology policy of Disconnection from family and friends.

Hello, I have a brief piece of information about Matt. I arrived at CLO EUS in August 1988. Matt was CO CMO EUS. He was there during the renos project. I think his father was also there. There were 2 places we stayed at during the renos. The Washington Jefferson hotel. A few roads up from CLO, and a multi level condo over on 5th Ave,(I think). I think when I stayed at the hotel Matt's father was my roommate.

Anyway. Matt blew shortly after the renos was completed. Sometime early 1989. A few weeks later Jeenie Anjoulo (spell) , who I think was his wife, also blew.

I wrote some stuff on ESMB. I will see if I can find that.

If I'm thinking of the right person, I'm remembering a Sea Org missionaire at the NY org to speak at some "event", short, blond hair, wearing a Sea Org cap of some kind indicating a rank of command. This would have been early to mid 1980's.

Matt was infamous in ANZO for running a solo CMO mission that decimated the Sydney org.s and he personally verbally declared a ton of people who left and never returned.

Combined staff for the Sydney org.s during his mission went from around 200 to just over 50. The CLO was similarly gutted.

$cientology was a fun activity before that. It became serious as hell after that. The "squirrels" suddenly had well-trained and well-respected names of the recently-declared in their ranks and Sydney (and thus ANZO) never recovered its former glory.

In some strange quirk of Upper Management, the AOSH ANZO forming crew were flown in days after Matt left/was recalled back to the US. Apparently, "Ethics were now in, so Tehc could be put in" (or so I was later told).

Never found out the full details behind this amazing slaughter of the once-willing but it remains (to me, at least) as a shining example of the power of Source when applied to bettering conditions. Oz public were shielded from the Kult far better than they had been.
