What a remarkable exchange took place Thursday night at the Clearwater City Council meeting. We figured you’d want to see the whole thing, and so we’ve pulled out the relevant 15 minutes from the city’s video recording and also produced a transcript of it.
Readers of the Underground Bunker should have some familiarity of the background: The Church of Scientology has plans to build a huge “L. Ron Hubbard Hall” near the giant Flag Building that it already has downtown, and also a park dedicated to the Scientology founder, which will complete a sort of Vatican for the church.
There’s a small road between the future hall and park, and Scientology owns all parcels of land around it. So they want the city to vacate the short street, S. Garden Ave., and give it to the Church so they can shut it down to public traffic.
