[Dave threw Danny a lifeline with Scientology’s amicus]
Yesterday we brought you the entire 26-page reply brief that Danny Masterson, through his appellate attorney Cliff Gardner, filed to finish up his appeal, piling on with Scientology’s “amicus” brief which argues that Masterson should be freed from prison because of the hostile way Scientology was treated during his 2023 trial.
Gardner’s initial appeal brief did raise issues about the Scientology content of the trial, but the Church of Scientology itself filed the amicus brief, confirming what we had suspected, that church leader David Miscavige still backs Masterson and wants to get him out of prison.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office responded to the amicus, pointing out that the only reason Scientology was an issue during Masterson’s two trials was that his victims had been Scientologists at the time, and were terrified about coming forward with what they knew of Scientology policies.
Now, Masterson has filed his reply, arguing that Scientology had it right and the AG’s office is wrong. And his is the final word. The appeal is now fully submitted, and we’ll have a ruling in the next 90 days.

Its interesting to me how Miscavige is so bullheaded, can't cut his losses, has to insistently dig himself in deeper with associating Scientology with a serial rapist, by the very way he keeps making it an issue in ham-handedly making it a matter of discussion in the trial. He's so used to bulldozing his way through others' rational disagreements and objections that he can't see the forest for the trees. He's made and is making Scientology the issue in his stupid, stubborn insistence that "Its none of your business, he's innocent, its all an attack on Scientology", its a side issue that he keeps pushing up to be front and center. And it is and will be interesting to see his guiding Scientology to go down with the sunken (and yet sinking deeper) ship that is Danny Masterson.

I don't recall any previous instance where Miscavige (and Hubbard beforehand) legally supported to this extent any Scientologist who caused major PR flaps like Masterson has. While it could obviously benefit Masterson, I doubt that Miscavige is doing it for Masterson's benefit.

It certainly looked like CoS did all it could to protect a sexual predator (Masterson) from justice. And if any prosecutors ever got interested in that type of thing, Masterson is a direct eyewitness to some of that happening. Miscavige probably doesn't want Masterson ever becoming a witness for the prosecution. That could be one factor contributing to Miscavige's willingness to help Masterson presently. Even if that type of litigation never happened, Masterson, given all the time available to him presently, might decide to write a tell-all book about his time in Scientology.
If Miscavige wants him to STFU, that might motivate him to do all he can to help Masterson.

That's all conjecture, of course. But if that has nothing to do with Miscavige getting the CoS so involved in the case, what else could be motivating him?
