HelluvaHoax!

Well-known member
WTF Karen Bass. She's a moron.
Yes, exactly.

And she has continuously been a moron. Here's a lovely example of her OM powers! (Operating Moronics)

The time she praised Castro, a psychopathic dictator who (in order to seize and hold power) has murdered 10,723 Cubans.

Then, a bit later, the time she denounced Castro when she thought it might help her get the nomination as Biden's VP.

It seems she is dedicated to diversity! She can hold multiple strongly-held but contradictory beliefs at the same time!

Rep. Karen Bass on Sunday walked back 2016 comments praising Cuban leader Fidel Castro, as scrutiny of her views toward the Communist government threatened her potential selection as former Vice President Joe Biden's running mate.
On “Fox News Sunday,“ the California Democrat faced questions about several visits to Cuba in the 1970s and a statement she released after Castro's 2016 death saying, "the passing of the Comandante en Jefe is a great loss to the people of Cuba.”
Bass told Fox host Chris Wallace that her perspective "developed over time" and that she now understood that the Castro government "was a brutal regime." Bass said she spoke with colleagues from Florida who raised concerns about her comments and that she "would not do that again, for sure."
"I absolutely would have not put that statement out," she said.
Scrutiny of Bass, the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, has grown in recent days as she has emerged as a top contender to be Biden's pick for vice president on the Democratic ticket. Republicans have started to attack her ties to Cuba. "She will be the highest-ranking Castro sympathizer in the history of the United States government," Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio said.
On NBC's "Meet the Press," Bass brushed aside Rubio's characterization and said Republicans "have decided to brand the entire Democratic Party as socialists and communists."
Still, Bass signaled an openness to strengthening diplomatic ties between the United States and Cuba, in line with the policies of former President Barack Obama. "It is just very important, the way the Obama administration had opened up relations with Cuba," she said. "The best way to bring about change on the island is for us to have closer relations with the country that is 90 miles away … I don't consider myself a Castro sympathizer."

Isn't he about to do a whole bunch of community service? Like picking trash up from the road shoulders and making license plates? Maybe it's a commendation in advance.

Brother Rizza Islam is charged with two felonies. If he is convicted, it is unlikely that he will do "community service." It is likely he will go to prison if he is convicted."

It's called a joke. I guess my humor doesn't translate unless in person. Everyone's good fortune, except for those I'm around.

A reminder, this is the second such government recognition for community activism that Rizza Islam has received while his criminal charges are pending. On 12/7/19, he received a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles as a "Community Activist" and "Voice of the District" for his "commitment and dedication to the South Los Angeles Community." This certificate was signed by Curren D. Price, Jr., the Los Angeles City Councilman for the then new 9th District.

As a result, Rizza Islam will be able to produce at least to significant positive pieces of evidence at the sentencing hearing if he is convicted after trial or pursuant to a plea bargain. He will also be able to convey the not so subtle message of political or establishment support.

How is that even possible? What is wrong with these people? What is their major malfunction? :duh::ohmy:

It's all good!

Can you believe the lack of concern though? I would like to believe it's an oversight, but her history shows otherwise.
There are two possibilities.

The first is that Congresswoman Karen Bass didn't know about Rizza Islam's pending criminal charges. It is entirely possible that her staff screwed up and did not do the necessary background check.

The second possibility is that: (a) Bass did know; and (b) this is part of an effort (along with the Certificate of Recognition from the City of Los Angeles signed by Ninth District Councilman Curren D. Price, Jr. noted above) to provide Rizza Islam with favorable evidence to submit at the sentencing hearing if he is convicted.

Hanlon's Razor states: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity." That, however, is not an iron-clad, scientific law. Either alternative above is possible.

Good point. If it was anyone else, that would be my first assumption.

But Karen Bass has a long track record of supporting scientology and its allies. In her case, it is an instance that fits into a broader consistent pattern.

I tend to assume incompetence before assuming bad intent. But with Karen Bass these things happen just a little bit too often to be pure chance imho.

Hanan and Rizza Islam get trial date for $4 million Medi-Cal fraud at Scientology rehab | The Underground Bunker

We sent a detailed email to [Karen Bass's] communications director, asking why she gave Rizza Islam this certificate, and he sent us this statement:

"An organization serving girls in the foster care system in South Los Angeles held its annual concert in 2019 and requested certificates for individuals that they were honoring. Rep. Karen Bass is a founder and co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth and has fought to protect the vulnerable and abused throughout her career. Our office provided the certificates when they were requested, using standard language on pre-printed Congressional certificates. These certificates did not in any way constitute endorsement of individual honorees. The Office of Rep. Karen Bass was at no time aware of the felony charges against Ronnie Islam. Rep. Bass, who has seen The Aftermath series, in no way supports his poisonous anti-Semitic and pro-Scientology beliefs."

* * * * * END EXCERPT * * * * *

****************************

EDITED TO ADD:

It is very sloppy for a Congresswoman to have her office set up such that blank Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition -- signed by the Congresswoman herself -- are given in bulk to organizations to be issued to previously unidentified individuals who haven't been properly vetted

It is probably a good thing that Congresswoman is not a heartbeat away from becoming President of the United States.

Then why the hell do you issue them if they do not constitute anything?! :furious:

This is some serious legal bullshit if I ever seen one.

Well, FINALLY some sort of decisive statement on the matter. I guess even Bass realized scientology is just bad publicity for any politician.

Concerning Rep. Karen Bass.

She is not the first elected official to have fallen prey to scientology's tricks in seeking endorsements. Unfortunately, she will probably not be the last, though the odds against scientology being able to pull these sort of stunts grow longer by the day. Scientology does this all the time and over the years have snared many an unsuspecting elected official (Stefani Hutchison's excellent Confront and Shatter blog documents plenty of this bs). But I think Karen Bass is the first to respond with such a clear, declarative statement that she has gotten herself informed, watched The Aftermath and "in no way supports his poisonous anti-Semitic and pro-Scientology beliefs." That is a strong statement.

I feel certain nobody and nothing scientology related is going to be supported or endorsed by Karen Bass or anyone in her office from here on out. It would seem scientology has created another elected official who feels they have been burned and that's a big minus in the "safepointed" column. She went from an unwitting supporter to watching The Aftermath thanks to their efforts.

Eventually scientology's deception and lies will recoil. I know it is always painfully slow to happen -- but it is inevitable. You cannot continue to lie and deceive without ultimately paying the price.
