Israel has launched 'preemptive strikes' against Iran that targeted their nuclear program and killed top military officials in an effort to prevent Tehran from developing a weapon of mass destruction.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an address that the attacks will continue 'for as many days at it takes to remove this threat' of Iran's nuclear program.
'Today, the Jewish state refuses to be a victim of a nuclear holocaust perpetrated by the Iranian regime. Israel will never allow those who call for our annihilation to develop the means to achieve that goal.'
Netanyahu said that Israel targeted Iran's main enrichment facility in Natanz and the country's ballistic missile program, as well as top nuclear scientists and officials.
He alleged that Iran was working on a new plan to destroy Israel after its old plan, its circle of proxies, failed. He called that an intolerable threat that must be stopped.
Iran's state-run IRNA news agency quotes an anonymous official saying Iran will offer a 'decisive' response to Israel's attack.
People in Iran’s capital, Tehran, heard another round of explosions Friday morning hours after the initial attack. It wasn’t immediately clear if it was air defense systems going off or another attack.
The New York Times reported at least a half dozen military bases around Tehran residential homes used by military personnel were among the targets.

Yes, it's always a horrible mess when any government(s) try to "negotiate with terrorists". Most of the western nations (USA included) operate under the absurd premise that they can negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran.

The problem is that terrorists are not negotiating. See Hamas, Hitler, Hezbollah and every other terrorist organization in history. They don't negotiate. What they do is PRETEND to negotiate so they can buy time---during which they are able to covertly continue and expand the very terrorist facilities/capabilities that the negotiation is supposed to put an end to.

Iran, for example, has signed nuclear limitations deals. They lied and hid their nuclear projects and underground facilities. They refused to let international inspectors go to locations to see what was happening. It was a joke. Western leaders patted themselves on the back and gave epic self-congratulatory speeches about how Iran had abandoned their nuclear ambitions. Iran leaders surely snickered and secretly mocked useful idiots running western countries who valued VIRTUE SIGNALING speeches over anything that would rid the world of these terrorist degenerates.

The only known "negotiation" that works with individual terrorists or nation-terrorists is just this: "IMMEDIATELY PUT DOWN THAT (gun, knife, explosive pack, molotov cocktail, nuclear bomb...et al) OR WE ARE GOING TO KILL YOU." That works. So far nothing else in history has worked to end terrorists and their murderous rampages.

This is a very difficult situation.

I know people in the middle east, both Jews and Muslims.

Israel is constantly under threat and the main Iranian leaders have for decades been saying that Israel must be destroyed and that Jews should be wiped out in the region. Not really even giving Israel any conditions or options in terms of: "We will destroy you if you don't do XYZ...", just "We will destroy you no matter what."
Israel feels backed into a corner and threats from a country that is developping nuclear power are treated very seriously.

On the Iranian side, they have been in the middle of negotiations with the US about limiting nuclear research and lifting sanctions. The Israeli attack came in the middle of these talks and Trump already hinted that he knew it was coming. So the Iranians have a right to feel like they have been stabbed in the back. That they have been negotiationg with the proverbial 1.1 blue tribble that extended their hand for a handshake, only to hit them on the head with a hidden weapon.

This is a mistake on Trump's part.

Yes, Iran understands the language of violence and it understands strenght. Military power would work to bring them to the negotiating table, but not a "stab in the back" sudden attack. That will only push Iran away from negotiations and towards developping their own nuclear weapons in coordination with Russia and China.

Trump should have openly broken off the negotiations, let the Iranians know that violence is coming their way.Then proceed in an open manner. Iran would not like that approach, but it would understand it and proceedto seek a solution.

Instead Iran will just permanently end up in bed with Russia and North Korea. Oil prices are gonna hit the sky and Israel is going to drag us again into their middle eastern mess. Not a great outcome for America.


The only way now that I see Iran back at the negotiating table is if the government is toppled and a new one opens the line with Washington again. I have nosympathy for the Ayatollah and his goons, so that would be ahappy solution for me... but I do not see it as very likely.


What is the best solution at this point for America? Probably the best thing now is to distance itself from the middle-eastern mess. Not attack Iran directly, not assist Israel openly. Let themfight their war alone. Not wasteany of our taxpayer's money on a war that is not our war.

It is yet to be confirmed if all the missiles have been intercepted, with huge plumes of smoke seen across the city.

Israel's offensive last night was the culmination of years of research and planning by Israel's military and Mossad intelligence agency to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Israel used fighter jets and a secret drone base near Tehran to batter nuclear facilities, missile launch sites and decapitate military command - in a move that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dubbed Operation Rising Lion.

The Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei wrote on X this evening that 'the Zionist regime [Israel] will not remain unscathed from the consequences of its crime'.

He added: 'The Zionist regime has made a big mistake, a grave error, and committed a reckless act. By God’s grace, the consequences of this will bring that regime to ruin.

The Israeli attack came in the middle of these talks and Trump already hinted that he knew it was coming. So the Iranians have a right to feel like they have been stabbed in the back. That they have been negotiationg with the proverbial 1.1 blue tribble that extended their hand for a handshake, only to hit them on the head with a hidden weapon.

I read somewhere that Iran was given (and presumably had agreed to) 60 days to come to an agreement and Israel struck on day 61 because, as usual, Iran was playing games and had not agreed to either accept or reject any deal, they certainly were not in the middle of negotiations, they were doing what they always do (see HH's post above). I believe Trump was doing his best to hold back both sides.

With all due respect, both the US and Iran were still in the negotiation process. In fact, the next meeting was supposed to be on Sunday June 15th:

Of course now it is all history, as Iran walked out of the talks after the Israeli attack.

The smart thing to do would be to oficially terminate the negotiations, openly make a military threat and only THEN strike Iran if they continued enrichment. Because now we have triggered a sort of "Pearl Harbor" reaction within Iran. They feel stabbed in the back and we are gonna have a war in the middle east. They will double-down and will develop nuclear bombs together with Russia.

So much for Trump's peace initiative. For such an self-declared 'art of the deal' guy, he sure doesn't manage to get any deals done internationally.

Iran was worth negotiating with, there was a deal to be made there. Russia is not worth negotiating with, they will just go after us if we give them space. Trump apparently got this exactly the wrong way around... and we are all gonna pay the price for his foreign policy mistakes. Starting with getting hit at the pump.

Somehow, I'm getting more and more annoyed by the fact that some middle-level financial analyst in Poland can repeatedly read the international room better than the president who has all the US intelligence assets at his fingertips.

Ok, so Marco Rubio stated that "Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran" (Source: Statement from Secretary of State Marco Rubio ), but Trump instead told Reuters that "We knew everything" about the planned airstrike (source: https://www.reuters.com/world/middl...if-iran-still-has-nuclear-program-2025-06-13/ ).

I mean this is embarassing. Even the media I'm watching here are making funof him by saying taht it is no longer'plausible deniability' once you admit that you knew about it all along.

Seems like like the whole administration was trying to deny any knowledge or involvement, but then Trump makeall their hard work go to waste. Either because he can't make himself look like he was ignorant of something, or because he actually forgot waht he was supposed to say.

It really starts to feel like Biden isn't the only US president with dementia.
