You probably saw the news yesterday in all the major media that on Friday, Bijou Phillips asked a court to have her daughter’s name changed from Fianna Francis Masterson to Fianna Francis Phillips.

Meanwhile, she and her ex-husband Danny Masterson were officially listed as “single” by another court.

Masterson was convicted of two counts of forcible rape on May 31, 2023, and then he was sentenced on September 7, 2023 to 30 years to life in prison. The former That ‘70s Show actor and Scientology celebrity is appealing his conviction, and we’ve been following that case very closely here.

For some reason, just about every news outlet that reported the story about Bijou yesterday said that Masterson is currently in North Kern State Prison in Delano, California, where he did spend some time after he was moved from LA County jail to state prison.

But since February of last year he’s been housed at the less harsh Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo County. A quick check of the state inmate database yesterday shows he’s still there…

I'm certainly not familiar with all the details of this case but it seems to be another instance of grown-up lawyers arguing with each other and no one asking Fianna what she wants. But that would make too much sense to actually happen.

Hypothetically speaking, if it were me and I disagreed with it, I just might wait until I grow up, go back to the court, and get my name back.
