Alex Barnes-Ross let us know that a new Scientology price list showed up at Reddit, a pamphlet with prices for Scientologists going to the church’s floating Caribbean cathedral, the Freewinds. (On the back, the price list carries a 2025 date, so it’s pretty recent.)
The Freewinds is the only place where Scientologists can reach the very top of the “Bridge to Total Freedom,” an auditing level known as Operating Thetan Level Eight (OT 8). So OT 8 is the first thing listed on the price list (at $5,000), but the barge offers a lot of other courses and auditing as well, and we have the whole thing for you.
Over the years, we’ve posted numerous price lists, and these numbers seem pretty consistent with what we’ve seen in the past. In other words, as Scientology struggles to find new members, it’s not giving them a break as far as the cost of going up the Bridge. On the other hand, they don’t seem to be rising substantially, either.
“I’ve got to give it to them. Maybe it’s their OT powers, but Scientology seems to be impervious to inflation,” Alex says. “The price of services on board the Freewinds don’t seem to have changed much since I was on staff decade ago. Book courses have a notably higher price tag at $50, as opposed to the $40 I remember them being back in 2014. But that’s still a net decrease when you factor inflation into the equation.
“Why? I doubt there’s any sort of initiative to make Scientology cheaper and more accessible; the average Scientologist — at least in the UK — donates more than £10,000 a year to the so-called church. I think it’s more likely leader David Miscavige has been so pre-occupied with the multiple Hill 10 flaps of late, a pricing review has become well overdue. But he also knows that whales donating to the IAS is a more reliable source of income. Services get you certificates. Donations to the IAS gets you status… and big bowling trophies.”
