I'm pretty sure that the scientology angle will be helpful towards explaining the "why didn't they come forward sooner" part, but it will not win the case.Reports from the first day are up on substack, a lot of talk of Scientology so far, more than I was expecting to be honest. I think where the DA is going is important so that the jury understands the Scientology mindset. Your only friends and everyone you know, your job, everything, is Scientology and you do truthfully look down on non-Scientologists. So losing Scientology is losing everything, I think the jury needs to understand that. But I do wonder if going so into Scientology is taking it too far and gives some openings to the defense, the judge didn't seem too happy with how much Scientology came up. It's a hard line to walk, but I have faith in the prosecution.

Their witness list was published - it's not that big. Tony shared it a few days ago. it's public record. You could google it and see if there's anybody you know. IMHO The case will be won or lost depending on how truthful and believable the victims will end up looking. I really think scientology will produce a huge amount of witnesses that will absolutely trash the witnesses morals, credibility, etc. The prosecution will need to defend them and knock down these witness statements.
I genuinely believe that Scientology can cause a person to suffer temporary insanity. If I was Masterson's attorney would have had him plead "not guilty by reason of insanity".
Then during the trial bring in a series of expert witnesses that would make that case to the jury (and the judge).
Of course, I would also have hired a couple of off-duty police officers to provide 24/7 security for my pets as well.![]()

The thing that is obvious - it all goes back to Hubbard's egocentric statements that ethics policy is prime over wog law. His policies about preventing Scientologists from going to the police are the genus of this hill ten mega out pr flap. Had Schwartz and Ells gave these victims the green light to go to the police, and let Danny hang - none of this would have come to pass.
Just look at that smug little prick with his insouciant certainty. I hope he is locked up for the rest of his life.
Found the answer.....Billy Baldwin and Danny are related due to marriage.... married to sisters.

it seems to me that sort of thing worked for them for a long time -- perhaps in part because the CoS was small enough for them to manage to keep a lid on things. but chickens come home to roost, and karma comes calling....
how many more cases were there of this sort (not even necessarily exactly the same type of crime) where the CoS successfully buried it? i know i've run across references to quite a few, if not quite as sensational. and hey, we've never gotten the police reports about what really went on with the 2019 shooting of the man with the sword (a bizarrely recurrent theme) in the Inglewood org, and what his connection to people there and history with it really was....
