When Scientology uses human trafficking as a selling point

Scientology propaganda is a gas, and once again Alex Barnes-Ross has forwarded us a particularly interesting success story coming out of the organization’s UK headquarters, Saint Hill Manor.

In this case, Scientology is crowing about a young woman making the commitment to leave her native Ecuador to work at Saint Hill and dedicate her life to L. Ron Hubbard’s “technology.”

We’d like to get your thoughts on it, and here’s Alex’s assessment…

Although sold as a success story, to me this is more of a “why you shouldn’t join the Sea Org” story. This lady clearly had a good life lined up ahead of her with aspirations to attend University and start a fruitful career... but instead, she’s been snapped up by Scientology and threw it all away.

This story confirms WISE companies are recruitment fronts for Scientology and just goes to show how the Freewinds is used as a promotional tool.

Scientology sounds promising — especially to areas like Quito where there’s a lack of media coverage about the abuse this organization engages in. “We can offer you a better life… and a UK visa” is the pitch. This lady is the victim of human trafficking, and if she ever decided to leave, how would she be able to afford to fly back home to reunite with her family?

Saint Hill recruiting abroad is nothing new, but the fact they’re pulling people in from South America suggests they’re struggling. If there are millions of Scientologists in England, why would they need to look as far afield as Ecuador?

No doubt this is early on the learning curve, the standard story arc of Scientology involvement. Eventually, all or most of the recruits will recognize their entrapment, hit their breaking point, escape to rebuild their lives and tell their stories. Scientology's most abundant product, by far, is ex-Scientologists.

That’s always been the case.

One primary purpose of WISE has been to supervise the delivery of Scientology to company employees and clients via WISE, with the objective of getting more people into the orgs.

WISE would push this as a primary company objective, over any goal the company owners might have, and to maximize revenue to Scn from the company.

I once read a WISE contract, when my partner and I were considering doing a consultancy, and thinking “I’m not going to sign this fucking thing!”. The contract was structured so that WISE could come in and bankrupt us with fees any time they wanted.
