While Scientology leader David Miscavige’s plans for expansion at the UK headquarters keep running into opposition, we learned this week that he’s going full steam ahead on a large structure going up in South Africa.
But what is it? All we know from the photo you see above is that it’s going to be a very large, multi-story building, and that it is in the shadow of Castle Kyalami, Scientology’s “advanced org” in that country.
Scientologists who want to reach the upper levels of the “Bridge to Total Freedom” must leave their local “org” at some point and go to an advanced org. The other advanced orgs are located in Los Angeles, Sydney, Copenhagen, and East Grinstead, England. (Future advanced orgs are planned for Canada and Mexico.) Those “AOs” then feed pilgrims to the spiritual headquarters in Clearwater, Florida, the Flag Land Base, where Scientologists must eventually go for some of the highest levels. And then the final experience, “OT 8,” can only be achieved on Scientology’s cruise ship, the Freewinds.
The Advanced Orgs in LA, Sydney, England, and Clearwater have remained pretty static for a long time as far as their physical properties. We reported last year that the AO in Copenhagen would be doubling its size after purchasing a $26 million building.
But a whole new building to expand the AO in South Africa? That seems new. But what’s it for? Just more room for Scientology processing? More accommodations for those flying in?
If you know what Scientology is up to with this new construction, please drop us a line. We’d love to know what’s going on there.
