The Aftermath Foundation recently launched a billboard campaign in the heart of Los Angeles, placing for the first month 20 eye-catching signs near major Scientology buildings, and then maintaining 10 billboards over the following year.
The billboards are aimed at reaching those trapped within the organization, and mainly those indentured within the Scientology Sea Organization. The billboards provide a lifeline for those seeking to escape, by offering support and resources for a fresh start outside of Scientology's control.
Unsurprisingly, this effort quickly caught the attention of Scientology's leadership. In an attempt to silence the message, Scientology reportedly tried to purchase the Aftermath's billboard locations from Lamar Advertising, the company managing the sites. However, Lamar refused to bow to the pressure, upholding their commitment to free speech and the integrity of their business relationships.
