We want to thank the reader who brought to our attention that a pretty remarkable film featuring L. Ron Hubbard talking about Scientology from 1963 has resurfaced.

It appears that an independent Scientologist group in Argentina posted a video of the film to YouTube about four weeks ago, but we’re not sure whether it might have been posted earlier than that.

It’s new to us, at least, but some of you oldtimers might remember seeing it back in the day: It’s a 30-minute peek at L. Ron Hubbard working at Saint Hill Manor in East Grinstead, England, produced by early Dianeticist Reg Sharpe. It also features Hubbard’s wife Mary Sue (with a small speaking part!), and their children: Diana, Quentin, Suzette, and Arthur.

The film was apparently made for Scientologists around the world to get a sense of what things were like at Saint Hill, and it features a very short model auditing session with Hubbard asking the questions and Reg on the cans.

I hope some day someone finds the movies made directly under Hubbard by Unimedia Productions, the precursor to all the later media offshoots.
"The Secret of Flag Results" is an absolute knee slapper.

I liked David Mayo....in the character of Sam Spade....trench coat, hat and all.......in the Training Film....Detecting E-Meter Reads...

That one was pretty good..... Early 70's.

It felt more like watching a video from the 50s. The last five minutes made me laugh with all the propaganda including the kids saying their good nights to daddy.

If anyone searching for LRH back in the 70s, was ever in doubt about WHO was in control......this be it.

I thought those training films were from the late 70s. Anyway, they'd have to destroy those e-meter read drills. There weren't enough 'sweeps' for a real floating needle.

I remember that one, and I remember encountering David Mayo. And I remember the missonaires sent into NY org to try to recover all the disaffected Flag public in the area. It was a long list. Evidently, the secret of Flag results was that they weren't good results.

You may be right... That was a long time ago for me....

Wasn't Mayo smoking a cigarette in that film....? Think so. I remember thinking his mouth and teeth were horrible to see...

I was a smoker too....and didn't "cognite" that my mouth and teeth would look the same one day, if I didn't stop smoking...

That's the most info I'd seen about those films in a long time. Surprised to see that the reels were sold to public also. I do remember the Miami Org's basement library of things to sell in 1980. Everything was there when those narrow red Christmas catalogs came out. I thought the reel to reels were expensive to make, but they were being sold very cheap. There must be copies of the Unimeda films ditched on ebay now. I think David Mayo, was smoking a cigarette in his scene. Probably one of those Mores, that you could never keep lit.

I thought the reel to reels were expensive to make, but they were being sold very cheap.

they were originally sold at a big markup. i found that in 1966, 7" reel-to-reel tape recordings were $30 ($280 today) and record album recordings $7.50 ($70).
