Rested and re-energized after his stint as Clearwater’s vice mayor, Mark Bunker is ready for the next chapter in his amazing journey, and the Underground Bunker is behind him all the way!
I sat down with Sinar Parman in 2011. It was a memorable day, largely because I had hired a pilot to fly by helicopter over Gold to shoot some aerial footage. I invited Sinar along so he could point out places of interest, and afterwards we would sit down to shoot an interview. It took some doing to book a helicopter. Several companies refused to do it when I told them I wanted to fly over Scientology's property.
I finally found one man willing to take us up. He didn't know much about Scientology and was startled to see people scurrying away on the ground after spotting us in the air. It was clear Gold was on high alert. Sinar and I were starting to fill him in on how the group behaves. As we flew back to his company we told him he could expect to hear from Scientology. He said he'd play dumb and not tell them who booked the copter. I told him to instead tell them the truth that Mark Bunker hired him to shoot some video.
As Sinar and I drove away, Scientologists descended on the business to complain. That was a fun way to start the day. Sinar lived a distance away from me and we both traveled a distance to get to Gold. To shoot the interview I rented a hotel room in the area and we shot for four-plus hours. Sinar had a lot of great stories. Unfortunately, I discovered when we took a break that I had royally screwed up and his mic was not properly plugged into the camera. I had left the house without headphones so I couldn't monitor the sound. It was devastating and I never had the nerve to let Sinar know the footage was unusable. Sadly, we lost him in 2017.
Over the years, I have looked for a solution to no avail, but a couple nights ago I tried again and found a service that said they could fix the problem...and they did! It is miraculous, but the audio is nearly flawless. I've put up a little raw footage so you can hear what the audio actually sounds like and then a piece from the same part of the interview with the fixed audio. Let me know what you think.
I am enjoying playing with the new tools AI has brought to filmmaking, allowing me to create music, images, and animation. Joking and degrading has never been as much fun. It may be a high crime in Scientology but it is an essential part of the burgeoning Church of Bunkology and its founder, L. Ron Bunker.
