[Alex and Amir]
The latest from our man in London, Alex Barnes-Ross…
Back in November, I received an email from somebody who was worried about a friend who was on staff at the Church of Scientology in Edinburgh. He’d noticed the influence the church was having over his friend’s life was growing and when he tried to voice his concerns, the message just wasn’t getting through. He wanted to know how he could help his friend before it was too late.
My advice was to ask open ended questions. Rather than criticising the church’s practices, ask things like ‘is there anything in Scientology you disagree with?’ or ‘if Scientology really is changing the planet, the course room must be packed.. how many Scientologists are there in your Org?’.. this, I suggested, might help his friend to start thinking critically and begin the process of waking up.. but it won’t happen over night.
A few weeks later, completely out of the blue another email landed in my inbox. It was the friend, he’d been watching my YouTube channel and he wanted to ask me some questions about Scientology.
That friend was Amir Essalhi, the public face of Scientology Scotland and TikTok star behind the video we shared recently on the Bunker in which staff members from across the world threw Dianetics books to each other.
When we first spoke, I knew instantly where he was at in his head — even if he didn’t know it himself. I recognised his state of mind because I remember being there myself only a few years ago. He had doubts, but he wasn’t ready to leave.
