Haven't been here in awhile - Something just happened

In a nutshell :

I am a former scientologist as of the mid 80s
And I ditched their mailing list by moving and not giving their mail dept a forwarding address
Once they found me again because a former friend pranked me by giving them my address,
because he's an A-Hole...
Then I moved again 10 yrs ago and once again I did not give them my address,
So for an entire decade I received no mail.
Then yesterday, I found a letter from COS !

If there is anything that qualifies the COS policies / practices as being "For The Greater Good"
They un-do any 'Greater-Good-Ness' by their lack of ability to take a hint that they are not wanted
and in spite of what they might imagine,
their tenacity isn't helping their cause.

Anyhow - They must have gone to extensive measures to search me,
And I'm curious what, if Anything I can do to remove myself from their list.
I definitely don't want them getting my phone #

Thanks in advance for replies

It is very easy to find out things like addresses and phone numbers online, businesses do this for marketing purposes, collection agencies to pursue payments, etc, and the CoS probably has subscriptions to such services, no big deal, they're programmed to do everything possible to milk every contact for every penny they can.

1. Ignore and see if you get another letter or two. They may just give up
on you with no indication from you that you are getting their letters.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2. Write back including their letter in the envelope, explaining that you've
been declared for over ten years. Their "admin" must be terribly outdated.
You don't want them to get into any ethics trouble or jeopardize their future
bridge activity by continuing to contact a known declared person.

You have zero intention of ever handling your declare status.

If you don't mind lying a bit in jest, LOL. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You know, there's another way to go here, if you're so inclined, and that is to soak up as much of their resources as possible feigning interest, until they fold. But that's only if you find it fun to be a bit mischievous. I wouldn't know what that's like. :)

Thanks to everyone for the clever methods

It's appalling to me, that on some level in the mail dept, they either go to the expense to pay (somehow) human beings
for their effort in locating someone who 'BLEW' 45 yrs ago.
OR - They've found a computer program that's effective at doing that

It would be fun to be mischievous, but that consumes time,
and lately I have too much to do already.
Thanks for the idea though

There are a hundred or more great ways to get them to stop contacting you.

If you print a copy of this message from Debbie Cook and send it to them, I believe that would work.

Wow it it hard to believe this letter is now 15 years old and interesting to read again. I wonder if Debbie Cook has managed to dump belief in the "tech" in the intervening years. I suppose given the payout we are not likely to ever know. But I would guess so - being away from the nonsense is healing in itself.

Send the mail RETURN to SENDER
and on the envelope write:

Why do you believe in XENU and volcanos?
OR
David Miscavige beats his staff.

I guarantee you will be dead filed and not hear from them again.
I have a friend who is out, doesn’t want to get declared but wants the mail to stop. He/she would LOVE to get dead filed…. Will that really work?

Yes, this technique is very effective. In addition to « return to sender » I also wrote « Refused » and « Life is far more better outside the church » or other similar statement.

At one point, they were using “skip tracing” techniques to find old Scientologists. This is used by debt collectors to find people who moved away while owing money.

There’s currently LOTS of services for this.

Do an experiment: google your name and an old address. You will be surprised at what turns up. I’m sure they have the process automated.

I found a website that showed all my prior addresses going back 40 years, who I was married to, my kids names, etc.

Old notions of privacy no longer exist.
