This isn’t an isolated tragedy, it’s one of many deaths, breakdowns, and disappearances that lead back to a single system. And a single man. This is just another piece of documenting those crimes, not just exposing them.
On June 25, 2000, Stacy Moxon Meyer died at Gold Base, Scientology’s secretive international headquarters near Hemet, California. She was just 20 years old.

The official story, one the Church has repeated for over two decades, is that she accidentally electrocuted herself while trying to “rescue a squirrel” from an underground transformer vault.
But anyone who’s been on the inside knows that version was crafted for one reason only: to conceal what really happened.
Stacy was a Sea Org member, married to another young Sea Org member named Derek Meyer. According to multiple people who were close to her at the time, including her best friend and several executive-level staff, Stacy had submitted written requests to visit her husband, who worked in LA and who she rarely saw. Stacey’s requests had been repeatedly denied, and she had made it known that she was emotionally struggling.
She was not supposed to be anywhere near the high-voltage vault where her body was later found, burned, mutilated, and unrecognizable from the massive electrical shock. The police records and scene reports are difficult to read: graphic, brutal, and tragic.
How brutal? Imagine 7,200 volts: enough to run a medium-sized city; coursing through a young woman’s body. Her death would have been instant. Electricity creates intense internal heating as it travels through tissue. The entry and exit wounds are often severely burned or charred. Internal organs are ruptured, cooked, or liquified by the current path. High-voltage incidents often result in degloving, amputations, or explosive trauma where current exits the body.
Now just imagine that for a minute. Because the police and coroner records confirm it all happened to her. And at the moment it did, the entire Gold Base electricity blacked out and then came back on.
Imagine knowing these gruesome details as you continue to read this, and understand that the man who ordered it be covered up knew them too.
Internally, on the base, there was no doubt. Stacy had taken her own life. The time of day. The day itself. The location. Her personal circumstances. Her isolation and despair. And the oppressive atmosphere that permeated Gold Base.
It all pointed to one thing: suicide.
But publicly? The police and coroner ruled it an accident. They were not given all the facts. They were not shown all the evidence. Their investigation was carefully controlled and curated. Key information was hidden. A narrative was constructed and directed by David Miscavige, carried out by Warren McShane, Ken Hoden, Carli McShane and others.
Just as it had been done for Lisa McPherson. And by the same mastermind.
I did not know Stacy personally. We may have crossed paths, but I do not recall.
I did not see what happened that day with my own eyes.
But what I can tell you, with absolute certainty, now, is that a crime was committed that day.
At minimum, the following:
- Obstruction of justice
- Conspiracy to falsify a cause of death
- Emotional and psychological coercion within the Sea Org leading to suicide
- Command responsibility at the very top of the organization
- Reopen the Stacy Moxon case
- Support RICO or Continuing Criminal Enterprise (CCE) legal action
- Trigger federal and international attention to Scientology’s internal abuse systems
- Finally dismantle the Church’s long-standing lies about Stacy’s death
This has been mentioned before. Of course, it was nowhere to be found and at the time was not mentioned to the authorities.
It had been destroyed in advance of the authorities’ arrival, as had any witnesses who might mention it or the circumstances surrounding her death.
And the suicide note was never to be seen or mentioned again, except to someone who needed to know every detail.
Someone who needed to control every aspect of the situation.
Just as he had done with the Lisa McPherson case.
David Miscavige.
I was not at the Int/Gold Base when this happened to Stacy. I was nowhere near it.
I was in the Caribbean, enjoying the sun, warm balmy winds, and lots of scuba diving.
You see, on June 13, 2000, the Florida State Attorney Bernie McCabe dropped all charges in Lisa McPherson’s death case. This was a major win for Scientology and for David Miscavige personally, who had invested tremendous resources into defending himself and suppressing damaging evidence of his direct involvement with Lisa.
A celebration was in order. A cruise, to be exact, on the Freewinds, replete with excursions on luxury dive boats and lots and lots of scuba diving and underwater photography. Dave’s favorite pastime, at the time. And the bill was flipped by none other than the IAS for all of his hard work. Janet Light attended much of it personally as a 'guest', just as I had been invited to attend.
And of course, there was the annual Maiden Voyage event.
So no, David Miscavige was nowhere near the Gold Base at the time Stacy died either.
He too was on the Freewinds, celebrating despite the news.
So what, you might ask, does David Miscavige have to do with Stacy Moxon’s death?
This is a relevant and very apropos question.
What in God’s name would the Ecclesiastical Leader, the Chairman of the Board, the furthest person from day-to-day operations, have to do with the death of a lowly staff member? And why would such a corporate executive get involved but maybe to be informed?
Was it because there was a potential liability to him personally, or to the Church? If so, why?
Was it from a PR perspective? Likely, but there’s a full-time unit in the corporate structure for that.
Or was it because David Miscavige controls everything down to which doorknob is to be used on doors and which razor wire on fences?
One thing for certain: It was not because he cared about Stacy Moxon or why she killed herself.
Another thing for certain: David knew every detail of the incident.
So how did he handle it? And why?
I was sitting in a beautiful luxury dive boat in the Caribbean. We had boarded it directly from the Freewinds.
It was late morning. I had made a point of getting there early because, guest or not, you just were not late when you were supposed to meet David Miscavige.
We were informed COB was running late but to stay put.
When Dave, Shelly and Lou joined us Dave was in a hurry to get going. A dive spot had been picked out, a shipwreck he had not yet been to.
Dave was not happy. It was a later start than he had wanted, but there was something else.
Someone, “Had committed suicide at the Gold Base.” Dave said in passing, angrily.
Shelly added, “That place [Gold] is a liability! Thats the third death in three weeks at the base!”
I did not hear more about it until later that evening when Dave would follow up on the instructions he apparently gave that morning.
Meanwhile it was business as usual, two dives, amazing food and drinks on beautiful clear blue water.
That balmy evening standing on the sundeck of the Freewinds Dave got on a call with someone at the Gold Base. I am not sure who was on the other end of the phone but could hear it was a male.
Dave listened intently as he inhaled an entire camel.
“Not a fucking trace of it, right?” Dave demanded. “You better be sure!”
“That’s right, it was an accidental death and that’s the long and short of it.”
“Get the other cocksuckers out of there, I don’t want them around just in case.”
The call ended. Dave looked angry but relieved. “Fucking bitch committed suicide!” He repeated what Shelly said earlier that day - the Gold base was a lability for him, it was filled up with Suppressive Persons, out to get him.
He handed the phone to Shelly and walked away.
Shelly stayed behind for a moment and told me that, Stacy, whom I confirmed I did not know, “had committed suicide in an underground transformer room.” Shelly said, “We know it was suicide because she left a note she was doing it.”
Shelly sighed, “He just never gets a break.”
Lacking from either of them—though Shelly did seem somewhat affected, was empathy for Stacy, the family, or the situation.
Apparently, they did not see a 20-year-old girl, burned to a crisp, as a result of the conditions, systems, and policies put in place by themselves to control “the SPs on the base.”
They saw Stacy as another potential problem. A criminal suppressive person for committing suicide and putting Dave in danger.
I learned years later, and now know with certainty, that Dave ordered the suicide note destroyed and anyone close to Stacy who might say anything be hidden away, or controlled so they’d never speak of it.
When I did hear about it, it was clear, Dave tampered with evidence and did everything he could to protect himself. He did not have an inkling of compassion for the deceased, just as he hadn’t for Lisa McPherson.
Same tragedy. Same cover-up. Same man pulling the strings: David Miscavige.
David Miscavige the man who claims to this day he is “uninvolved in the day-to-day operations”.
Less than a year later Miscavige had the entirety of the corporate management structure locked up at the Gold Base in what is now referred to as “The Hole”. Where he would blame them for bringing SPs like Stacy to the base in the first place.
He would destroy what was left of any corporate structure and attempt to finish building his literal prison at the Gold Base, razor-wire fences, cameras and motion detectors everywhere so no one like Stacy could ever cause him trouble again.
A note about Rick Moxon; Stacy’s father
In 2010, I had a chance to talk to Rick Moxon over the phone.
Daniel Montalvo had come to me after blowing the Sea Org. Rick was desperately trying to get him back, and I was trying just as hard to keep Danny from falling for it.
In the two or three minutes we talked, I told Rick what I had witnessed and heard, as above. That his daughter had committed suicide, and that she had left a note behind.
Rick’s momentary silence, made me wonder.
But the next moment, he was back at me for “holding Danny against his will” a fabrication, just like the story that Stacy was trying to save a squirrel.
I don’t know how Rick Moxon lives with himself, either way, when he knows so many truths. So many similar stories. So many crimes that tie directly back to David Miscavige.
Miscavige must have stolen Rick’s soul or has some mighty heavy blackmail material on him.
Or both.
Stacy’s story will not be burned and buried like her body and suicide note were.
And who was responsible, and how, for the many similar deaths, disappearances, and cult-like cover-ups inside the “Church of Scientology” will soon come into full view.
