The Danny Masterson Trial thread

There is.

I'm no legal expert, but I think they can call more as the trial drags on and new facts see light, right?
Ummmm These people have been deposed by the attorneys on both sides. This isn't Perry Mason's 11th hr surprise witness stuff. I would like to see Schwartz and Ellis on the stand, but Scientology "isn't" on trial here.

 So very interesting what she said about the incident, and the defence's trying to pick apart what she said to the police then and her story now. Definitely popcorn time.

it seems to me that sort of thing worked for them for a long time -- perhaps in part because the CoS was small enough for them to manage to keep a lid on things. but chickens come home to roost, and karma comes calling....

how many more cases were there of this sort (not even necessarily exactly the same type of crime) where the CoS successfully buried it? i know i've run across references to quite a few, if not quite as sensational. and hey, we've never gotten the police reports about what really went on with the 2019 shooting of the man with the sword (a bizarrely recurrent theme) in the Inglewood org, and what his connection to people there and history with it really was....

The way I remember this is the family is suing Co$. His sister? Here's a question. Would reports be held from general public because of a pending lawsuit?

I've been googling. Statler Sr. Lives in Mo, my home state. It seems he has moved back & forth between SE & SW Mo. He has tons of entries in casenet mo. And now he lives in the same city I do. Oh! If only this town were smaller...I could find out.
I feel really sorry for Jr. and his family.

Just some comments on my part....

I mentioned Billy Baldwin....yesterday...

And today Tony Ortega mentioned him....and also stated that for Danny Masterson's first Court Appearance....that Billy was part of his large entourage then......as he was today in Court.

OK.....so Danny has a large entourage of Hollywood people....

But I just don't get the strategy for either Danny or Billy for him to be in Court today.

Why would Defendant Danny want the "recognizable" brother of Alex Baldwin.....hanging with him in Court today?

Billy's brother Alex just killed a woman on a film set recently..... He's been on TV giving interviews....and non-stop News reports.....and a Funeral.....and weeping on YouTube....and on and on....

I would think that at least some of the Jurors would make that family connection....

I just don't see the upside for either of them. What is the upside for Danny? What is the upside for Billy?

I think it's an interesting defense strategy - paint Scientology as a toxic religion, then call for a mistrial when the subject comes up. Mimsey
Interesting and very, very risky. Because if it becomes established that Masterson did in fact rape the women but a mistrial happens on the religious angle and a retrial goes on... That won't get Danny off the hook necessarily.

Moreover this trial is going to be some 3 months of bad PR for scientology. If a retrial would happen, that's an additional ~3 months of bad PR on top of what they already got.

As weird as it sounds, if scientology can't knock down the credibility of the victims, then their best strategy might be to just "take the hit, move on as fast as possible". Not drag this black-PR-generator to go on and on.

I'm not expert enough to be able to say which way it's going, in my opinion it isn't looking good for masterson so far, but there's a lot of trial to go. One thing that is clear, Scientology is taking a beating. IJC and the MAAs all working to cover it up so that she wouldn't report it, along with everything else about Scientology, not a good look.

Agreed. It seems it was a total low level ethics clusterfuck flap. I have no idea where it went in the end, but knowing what I know now - it might have gone to Julian (or whoever was in his shoes at that time) then to the OSA tiger team for the CC.

Keep in mind I have 0 insider knowledge of this event. I'm just making highly speculative educated guesses here.

Oh I beg to differ mims
Scientology is on trial and wogs are finding out just how out-ethics Scientology really is by telling parishioner’s / rape victims
they “pulled it in”
I love it
Karmic justice kicking David Miscavige’s wee little ass
Miscavige is losing it and the cult will receive irreparable damage furthering its demise

Celebs/VIPs have always had special treatment. What might get a normal member in deep trouble is more like read a reference, do a danger condition and promise to be good for a VIP. They get handled with kid gloves. I'm not at all surprised to hear that this stuff was kept off of normal lines. Can't kill the golden goose. It's just more proof that in Scientology "ethics" and "justice" don't really mean ethics and justice, they mean whatever Scientology thinks is best for Scientology.

i still think the CoS would love a mistrial and/or an appeal, because it can be used to bolster their best defense at this point with their key audience, the internal members, that the wog judicial system is unreliable and that poor Danny (who at this point can painted as having stopped offending after their extensive cure) was indeed best handled by scn 'justice', 'ethics' and 'tech'.

it seems to me DM may be most concerned with defending how it got to this point, rather than hoping to sweep it under the rug with the loyal following.

does that make any sense to you?
