STUNNING LEAK: Scientology’s entire asset portfolio the year it got IRS church status

Big list researcher
.....

Now, the Underground Bunker has obtained a stunning document dated June 30, 1993, just a few months before the Church of Scientology finally obtained its objective of tax exempt status.

The document lists Scientology’s total assets in bonds, equities, and cash as of that date.

The total is $251 million, almost exactly what Rathbun said in Going Clear.

And for anyone interested I made a csv-file (which you can load n a spreadsheet) of the leak

We can’t reveal anything about our source other than to say we believe this is an authentic document from inside the church. It not only confirms the amount that Rathbun cited, but it also breaks out and names the bonds and equities and amounts that Scientology was invested in at that time.

It’s a goldmine for Scientology historians.

We know you’re going to want to pore through it in detail. Who knew, for example, that Scientology held about a million dollars in shares of both Coca-Cola and McDonald’s in 1993? This is fun stuff.

If that was data was something more recent, I could probably tell you a whole lot more about the significance of it. But 1993, that's way before I had anything to do with equities.

One thing I notice - it's almost all American companies and a few UK ones. I know China wasn't a big thing then, but I'm not seeing any Toshiba, Philips, Shell or Mitsubishi etc.

Hasbro, KMart, Walmart, Coca Cola, Sears, Unilever... all looks pretty standard and unimaginative. Not saying its horrible, just that I don't see any big plan behind it. Guess they hired a few specialists and went with a bland safe option.

How very hypocritical.

Pfizer STOCK.

Pfizer is a mega drug company on par with the cult's hated Eli Lilli.

Pfizer makes a favorite anti-depressant psych drug called ZOLOFT.

So while the cult screams about Big pharma and their money making activities, there is no problem with the cult investing in and making $$$ with them

(Scroll down to EQUITIES HELD AT MARKET VALUE) To see Pfizer investment.)

Pfizer
Pharmaceutical company

I'd say it's worth looking into.

A VERY STABLE SUPER GENIUS!!
Tony Ortega regularly posts amusing quotes from LRH, I particularly enjoyed this one:

Source Code

“The Roman Catholic Church, somewhere along the line, through watching the dramatizations of people, picked up some little fragments of R6, and they make it look like it’s continued forward into present time. But the truth of the matter is that the loyal officers were not all killed. Xenu missed. And they were not all killed. Not by a long way…Somebody, somewhere on this planet, back about 600 BC, found some piece of R6. And I don t know how they found it, either by watching mad men or something, but since that time they have used it and it became what is known as Christianity. The man on the cross. There was no Christ, but the man on the cross is shown as every man so of course each person seeing a crucified man has an immediate feeling of sympathy for this man. Therefore you get many PCs who say they are Christ.” — L. Ron Hubbard, October 3, 1968

That bit of "gossip" that was floating around PAC BASE....back then....that David Miscavage had lost millions of dollars playing with Oil Futures.....

And... that the entire thing with the Art Prints were his idea to make the money back....

Hard to think that there was not some truth to all that.....quite a specific rumor.

It would be interesting to get some verification on that....

Kind of a Nitpick here, I suppose. But there is not now and never has been any legal entity named "Scientology" that ever (a) owed any corporate tax debt or (b) owned any such assets as listed in that document.

Nothing on the posted document identifies the legal entity alleged to have actually held those particular assets and no proof that it was "Scientology" was provided by Tony Ortega in his article.

Speaking of other things: I see a significant amount of Goldman Sachs bonds, but I don't see anything from Citigroup, JP Morgan, Lehman Bros (yes they were till around back then). I see Japanese banks though.

Interesting. I may need to show this to some old-timers and ask what they think of it.

It was Lyman Spurlock that did the oil investments.
$40 million of Hubbard's money was lost.
This was discussed at OSA INT while I worked there.
The worthless ASI prints were peddled to replenish Hubbard's loss.
Lyman died a few years ago.
