I'd be interested in your opinions on this.

I think LRH used very similar techniques

I've been thinking about the Deadly Quartet lately. The buttons are Help - Control - Communication - Interest.

The drills were to get the PC to agree that help is possible and can be good - get their thoughts on help and their agreement that help is possible.

Then the same with control.

On communication you pull a withhold.

BANG! They are in Interest and this absolutely works and it's like magic. Sometimes the results were spooky and astounding. One time when doing this drill I had a complete stranger grab the lapels of my shirt and emphatically told me how interesting they found these questions. It was weird.

By the way, that's how to arrive at help and actually help someone - by going backwards on these "buttons". That's why the various drills of "Find the auditor" and such to get them interested in their session and case...then the session starts (communication) with 8C, etc., to where they can actually control some aspect of their case and they are helped.

Look at the various books, lectures, courses, etc. It's all around these 4 "buttons".

Scientology is, essentially, built on two things.

One is the misunderstood word/symbol idea. Go back and read Dianetics with that in mind. That's the entirety to abberration and the engram to begin with. Every word and sound and emotion is the equal meaning and definition to every other word and sound and emotion in the engram.

It's the basis of FPRD, etc., and this ties straight into the second idea of the withhold and the overt/motivator sequence, etc.

There's something to this confessional practice. I don't know if it's some sort of dynamic where the person hearing the confession is now, somehow, complicit with the confessor or what but there's some sort of trust building "in the know" acceptance thing that takes place by this process.

The problem with Scientology was Hubbard. I personally think that there's a ton of things in Scientology that are workable and revelatory and all that - such as the Tone Scale. The trouble was that Hubbard immediately employed every discovery as a method to manipulate and subvert.

The surface appeal PR angle of the Scientology confessional practice could be very therapeutic as it's "sold" and presented by Scientology and to the auditor but Hubbard twisted it as a form of enslavement and the management team uses it as weaponized blackmail.

If there wasn't some actual useful material there, then Scientology would not have grown. But Hubbard very shrewdly altered and hid the useful stuff, and didn't allow anyone to really see the useful stuff without his "control" layer on top of it.
