i think it's already failed to attract more members, basically for a generation. it's just doomed to fade into oblivion as it loses its key generation of diehard counterculture era recruits -- other groups like the Moonies suffer the same existential problem -- and those born in, who due to the group's Luddite worldview are less educated and less capable of running the organization, lose interest.
