We need to wait and see. Russia is all about the 'practice' and not at all about the 'letter of the law'.

I don't really expect them to issue a formal blanket ban on dianetics institutes (which is predominately how scn markets itself in Russia), but they are putting a lot of heat on the members and orgs and de facto preventing them from operating.

Its not making it any easier for current members to leave btw. Nobody wants to leave now, giving the impression that they were "scared out".

MOSCOW, September 24 (RAPSI) – Two foreign scientology-related organizations have been declared undesirable in Russia, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office has told RAPSI.

These NGOs are World Institute of Scientology Enterprises International (WISE Int.) and Church of Spiritual Technology (CST) registered in the U.S.

The American organizations pose a threat to Russia’s safety, prosecutors believe.

Information on the decision taken has been forwarded to the Russian Justice Ministry in order to include the NGOs in the list of foreign and international organization labeled as undesirable in the Russian Federation, the statement reads.

Dianetics and Scientology are a set of religious and philosophical ideas and practices that were put forth by L. Ron Hubbard in the US in the early 1950s.

The scientific community never recognized it as science.

A resolution passed in 1996 by the State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, classified the Church of Scientology as a destructive religious organization.

The Moscow Regional Court ruled in 2012 that some of Hubbard’s books be included on the Federal List of Extremist Literature and prohibited from distribution in Russia.

If I worked within the Russian government I would arrange to have all the books that expose the truth about Scientology as well as all the documentaries and TV shows all translated into Russian or provided with Russian subtitles. And then arrange for distribution of the books and broadcasting of Leah's TV show, the HBO Going Clear documentary, etc throughout the country.

Attempts to ban Scientology at this point will just tend to drive it underground. It will be almost impossible to stop cult members from practicing Scientology when they believe their eternity depends upon them continuing to go up the "Bridge" and salvaging this sector of the universe. But getting the truth out there about Hubbard, Miscavige, and the CoS, will inoculate the population and keep the virus from spreading. :coolwink:

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I don't think Russia will look kindly on it if they just change names and keep doing what they're doing, but that's probably what they'll try.
